    Bring it on!!

    • Here is the current plan of a wiring diagram, it is currently untested and may get revised if we come across something during the install.

i'll do a write up of how it works and why we done it this way once we know it works. Stay tuned.

Hi Mark, Looks like you have been doing your homework. Looking good. Do you know whether you will be using the standard relays yet and also what size the resistor will be as I will have to get my bits down from Darwin. Thanks and cheers Bill

        • Didn't get too far today as we done some more testing and found that the power to the solenoid from the TCM isn't 12 volts. Bugger. Ive tracked down a voltage regulator 5volt 3amp, but won't have it until later in the week. I will edit the diagram as to where it will go (+trigger relay power feed to switched side). Everything else should remain the same.
Bill the relays I was going to use are mini relays from jaycar, make sure they are 5pin/changeover relays. And the resistor I got is 6.8ohm 5amp with a ceramic heat sink on it.

I am actually now looking at getting some solder in relays and mounting them (and the resistor, diodes, regulator) onto a board, will be a lot neater and more compact to fit in a small mountable box (also from jaycar)

            • Well done MRW82. You have the concept exactly right. Your is obviously different to mine (early 120 with 1KZ), so the whole wiring system is different to mine. I have had a bit of a look see at the wiring diagram and from memory the TC activation was through the earth side?? But would have to go back to bet on it.
Anyway, very interested to see how you get on and how it goes.
As I said at the start, others will have a different take on what they want, I just did what I did because that suited me. Lots of different ways to control the lock up.
Incidently, mine is still going brilliantly, wouldn't be without it now and drive all the time with it locked.
              Cheers, Jamie

              • Actually it seems the TCM controls/switches both sides of the solenoid power, from the testing we've done. But we initially planned to switch both sides so we could close the loop of the TCM circuit (with a resistor in line) and have a separate power feed and earth for the solenoid. This way has the least chance of upsetting the computer.

                • I've got the Toyota shop manual on disc at work. I'll have a look at this when I get back to work on Monday.

                  • Hi All, Im still here. Its getting very technical, havagoodweekend. Cheers Bill.

                    • I had a look at the Toyota manual today and had a bit of a plan as to how this might work. But once I read the section relating to torque convertor lock up clutch fault codes where it states that if the TCM requests the convertor to lock up and it doesn't detetc it or it is not requested and it does lock up it will log a fault code and illuminate the MIL. It does this by monitoring the speed signal of turbine and input shafts. So basically I think this mod won't be possible on the 1KD Prado fitted with the A750F transmission. Once again like the EGR blocking they are too smart. I hope I'm proven wrong but I think that is how it is.

                      • Mmmmm, very interesting Mozz, likewise hope this can be overcome with MRW82 relay system of keeping it looking as though its all working normal.
A suck it and see if it works trial may have to be done heh??
I'm glad mine (early 120) wasn't this hard!!!

                        • Jamie. Is this info still available. The Rapidshare site on this link says "Contains no data. Edit this Share to add data."
Would like to try this setup on a 2003 Prado like yours. Sounds like it would be beneficial for towing.
Is this the same thing? http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...257D356165.png

                          • Hi All, I know that the lock up works on the 200 series auto box as I helped my nephew fit the kit from "Wholesale Automatic Transmissions". It was only a small box type thing with a few wires and a resistor/heatsink on it. He tows a big caravan and reckons its the bees knees. He hasn't had any probs with it since fitting. Cost is the downfall, approx $475 I think he paid for it. I priced one for my 2007 D4D Prado, same price.
I hope Mark can pull it off. Would be a great bit of gear for towing as Jamie has proved. I am looking forward to getting mine set up before we travel again, whether I have to buy one or construct one. I don't know what the "money controller" will think of it, as its always "you don't need it, its worked fine till now"!!!. OK nuff said Im off. Cheers Bill

                              • The pics if they worked are the wiring diagram, the junction connector locations, the pin layout and my take on how you might wire the mod. I'm not sure if it will work but if someone wants to have a crack I hope this helps out to some degree.
