  • Stolen 80 Series

Not a prado thing but maybe some one on here has one along with their prado. A friend who is an ex copper (mechanic by trade) who I just saw today had his 80 series cruiser flogged from his driveway (think he said) Monday night. Apparently they are being stolen big time for parts and after market parts. Seems most that are stolen are loaded up with all the fruit, bulbar, rock sliders, some with rear wheel carriers (as my friends), snorkels etc. His was the multi valve turbo diesel. There was another one close by that was stolen and was caught on CCTV and was gone in under a minute. So might pay if you have one and don't want it removed with out your consent then maybe an alarm or kill switch or some thing of the like. He will get a reasonable amount back but still not what he spent on all the gear. They reckon none are been recovered either and said its a major racket going on......Cheers Steve

Wow, that sucks big time. Such a sought after model too. I really feel for the bloke, I would be a broken man if someone stole my 80.

His was stolen from Glenmore Park here in Sydney and the other I thought he said Blacktown but I may be mistaken on that. Plus other areas of Sydney. The other one which was stolen the bloke who flogged it was seen on the CCTV for over an hour waiting till the owner of the 80 returned home with it. Apparently with a hat and sunnies one so cant see his face. Like my friends he still had the key in his pocket but pride and joy gone....Cheers Steve

Travellers lost their fourby last night when thieves entered their unlocked caravan whilst they were asleep in a caravan park in Kununurra. They took the car, which was full of gear and alcohol, and the guys wallet. The vehicle was recovered after the thieves crashed it near Timber Creek. The car is a write-off and the thieves were flown to Darwin hospital with serious injuries. Now the travellers are stuck without a car. Message to all: lock your bloody doors at all times.

Yeah mate of mine had his j'ust bought' 80 series with a lot if fruit stolen from Blaxland in Jan. Was put up on here at the time. He'd only had it a few weeks. Never recovered it.

I'm lead to believe the Prado's are hard to steal without the keys thankfully.

Another common theft is landcruiser 75 series doors.
More than couple of owners have gone out in the morning to find the cruiser sitting where they left it but no doors.
Anything thats expensive 2nd hand is popular.
Wreckers could part out a good 80 series for more coin then selling complete.

Compo!!! What a fu##n joke. Bastards should be made to pay every thing back even if it's out of their hard earned dole money. Then they won't have enough for their smokes and grog WE pay for..... Cheers Steve

Cannot understand why people do not lock their doors at night.

Some years back at a Broken Hill motel for work, 6 rooms used by us, my room locked (wallet and car keys under the mattress underneath me), none of the other 5 rooms locked at all, and every wallet stolen from those 5 rooms during the night.

My locked patrol was stolen just over 4yrs ago now from my locked garage and turned up last year in some lebo's wrecking yard in Sydney of all places, I still have both spare keys for it, I'll be damed if I know how they nicked it, NATS is meant to be ok as an immobiliser and it was locked for friks sake, even the garage was locked(roller door) which I drilled holes in the track to bolt padlocks in, but they broke in to the house, couldn't find the keys, but bolt cut the padlocks( they must've brought with them bcos I don't own bolt cutters) closed the garage and gone, nothing stolen from home which at the time I thought was strange, cops just shrugged shoulders n said.. Obviously after your car, 3 yrs later get a call from a defective in NSW saying they found my car in a wreckers owned by some lebos

That's about the standard response from cops. Don't expect much in the way of prosecution of the wrecking yard either.

If they want it they will come after it. Keys or no keys. All you can do is make it difficult for them.

After having one car stolen in the street whilst my mum was shopping, and another attempt foiled (came out of a pub to find them attempting to hotwire the car), my dad had a fuel pump cut-out switch hidden in the car, and a pedal lockout device made up. 2x6mm flat steel bars clamped over the pedals held on with the thickest padlock I've ever seen. You couldn't press a pedal without the others moving.

My South Africa grandfather had an anti-hijack alarm/immobilser that once activated let the car be driven for a few minutes before killing all electrics so the hi-jackers were some distance away before it went off and didn't come back looking for the keys.

A slightly OTT theft detterant, from South Africa was the 1998 BWM Blaster:
