This ones not a 4wd trip report but instead the family went out for a relaxing Sunday BBQ yesterday at Cedar Flats. This is on the NorthBrook Parkway on the other side of Mount Glorious. Just drive up Mt Nebo road, past Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious and after descending Mt Glorious you come across Red Cedar and White Cedar day use areas.
It was almost deserted. About 7 covered areas there with plenty of tables and wood barbeques. Note there was no wood in any BBQs and the plates were rather average. We had taken a frypan and small butane stove for the BBQ anyway. They also have flush toilets there.
Some nice big open grassland for the kids to run around in , but it needed a mow. And a creek that ran right along the edge had the kids busy for ages.
Anyway just a nice day out (no 4wding) , not too far from Brisbane. And you can trip out to Lake Somerset or Lake Wivenhoe further along. It’s also an enjoyable drive in the Prado up and over the mountains but you just have to watch out for the many bikes.
The other week we also did a BBQ day at Bellbird Grove, which is halfway to Mt Nebo from the Gap along Mt Nebo road. This is great spot for a Sunday BBQ as well, with plenty of tables, toilet and a very big open area(better than Cedar) and good, clean free Gas BBQs.
There used to be three mines in this area: Double D, Never Beat and Golden Boulder. You can take the 1km circuit Golden Boulder track to the historic mine site. It was the largest mine in the area with five shafts.
There is also the 1.7km Turrbal Circuit. This circuit meanders through Eucalypt forest and down to a wet gully. There is quite a variety of birds for the avid birdwatcher. We had a few friendly kookaburras stay round over lunch
How about a SEQ BBQ day on Sunday the 8th June at Bellbird Grove park?. All welcome. No 4wding but just a nice BBQ and say kick the footy / frisbee around., also some walks there. etc?
{**Edit - no takers, so cancelling**}
Cheers
