Echoing allot of the previous comments already posted here, but the Prado, like many other breeds these days, are pretty capable vehicles considering that allot of the time they aren't really tested like we see in some doco's and TV shows. Consider how often these vehicles are used each day and for what activity. Plus the fact allot of places are becoming easier and easier to get to or locked up. In any case I can say most of the mods done to mine are for 'just in case' as other than one winch recovery, playing with tire pressures and one run with bogging deliberately to use the Maxtrax, she does everything I point it at with respect to its size and my driving ability (not trying to climb a vertical rock face). I guess I view my Prado as being a capable touring platform for camping and fishing, self sufficient for periods of time in the bush with current mods, affordable and relatively OK to work with as a hobbyist learning stuff off these forums and trying to spin spanners in the shed.
At the end of the day a Prado isn't going to match a 200 for power or a solid axle truck for flex etc. but I see it as an all rounded 4WD that definitely deserves more of a rewarding title than the soccer mum wagon or shopping trolley tags its been marked with over the years. In saying that, if they still made the 120 id buy another, but in an auto, so the missus could drive it.
Cheers,

After today's 4wd course with the mrs I've realised ours is much more capable of doing anything with the correct tyre pressure and gear selection. Very happy with it and now she is more confident behind the wheel

Mate I am about to do one as well here in Qld - and will be taking my lady along. I am sure that once she sees just what the Prado can do and she has said she will have a drive as well I am sure there will be more enthusiasm when it comes to camping - not Glamping!!
cheers

mines twin locked on 35's and most of my local 4wd group have cruisers and patrols. I follow them and some times even drive stuff they can't. I give mine hell tho, bash plates are smashed and the aj120 sliders have copped are fair beating. I have gotten my self into so much trouble with the lockers that i have had to winch up shit to stop it from rolling because I'm taking it places it probably shouldn't lol. When they post trips up as hard and big trucks only i am still aloud to tag along as they know i will keep up. Theres a nice rock step at bylong creek that a few of my friends couldn't drive it in there big solid axel trucks and i walked up it. So yeah prados are pretty awesome off road!

I've given this a lot of thought and I reckon a big Camel turd that we drove over up in the Pilbara would be the "wildest shit" we have ever driven through, lots of dog shit but they aren't really wild!
Cheers Andrew
I find the Emu turds can be exhilarating, especially the conical shaped ones with some height, real locker country there!

You sure that wasn't some Bear-Grills type sleeping in a hollowed out camel?

Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.

It certainly wouldn't have been Bear Grylls, he only sleeps in hotels I had a very interesting conversation with a Lady who set up the location and shoot for one of his shows, unsurprisingly what you see on TV isn't exactly the same as the way it pans out in the field
Cheers Andrew
