I mounted my GME TX3540 upside down under the centre console in front of the auto gear stick. The GME has all the controls on the mic but the speaker is in the unit. The unit is mounted upside down so that the speaker faces upwards. It is fixed in place by a bracket at the front and velcro underneath.

I have been thinking of trying to get a micro unit to fit into the conversation mirror/sunglass holder. With the hope that it could be closed up when not needed.
Was defiantly hoping that someone else had already trailed blazed this idea.... so i could get all the hints and tips.
but under the centre console looks to be the easiest, providing its a suitable unit.
Thanks for all the ideas guys!

Didn't want to spring for the extra cost of the units with controls all on the mike. This set up has been good though and is easy to reach the controls etc. No screws, just double sided tape.

I have a GME unit mounted under the dash of the drivers side. I bought a ClicOn mount for the mic. There are some images of the mic in this post.

I went with a GME TX 3345, this is a nice compact unit. I was able to mount this at the back of the centre console on the metal bar at the top, this still allowed me to clip the back cover on. I picked up the aux power from the aux socket and installed the coax cable down the side of the car to the back where I mounted a kaymar bracket for the antenna.

It's a cheap unit I got of ebay, I put ozi explorer on it with hema maps. I have used sticky Velcro on the knobs and the top of the OEM stereo so it is out of the way.
The only thing I am disappointed about is sometime it's not bright enough in the direct sun light.

I too have the GME TX3540. It has the controls on the Mic with the ability to run a separate cable from the base unit to another location for the mic to plug in to. also has a separate speaker.

I took out the glove box and removed that little thing in the top right hand corner, some kind of business card holder that is probably used as an ipod dock somewhere else in the world. Grind of a little bit of the plastic moulding and the base unit sits perfectly on the top of the glove box housing.

I ran the external speaker and mounted it on top of the left footrest in the drivers side footwell.

I also ran the remote mic socket into the drivers footwell an mouted it to the side of the centre console at about shin height. the mic bracket is screwed to the dash just to the right of the central video display. Its just the right height to keep the crly cord on the mic tight.

And if you are that way inclined you can unplug the mic and put it away in the glove box.

While the mic is in the glovebox when not in use you would never know the unit is installed. A mate wanted to plug his bloody mac into the socket- he thought I had internet!
Hello Slimf, where did you get the ethernet/RJ45 socket from that fits the blank switch spot?

I think i have a GME but it is mounted to a suction bracket bought from ARB they ran the wires to the dash so if i am going to be using it i stick it to the windscreen and hook the wires up, the wires are hidden under the dash mat and i stick the radio in the center console when i don't need it.

I search high and low for a socket that fit a blank switch tricky, no luck.
I ended up taking it to a installer who also couldn't find any blank switches that fit but were willing to give it their best shot to work something out for me.
They ended up removing the blank and milling it out, dismantling the socket around the radios connector and created their own connection for the IC440N.

Don't even know its there when not connected and i just keep the handset in the console when not in use.

Very tidy gogetter! cant put one there tho as thats where my heated seats are.....

i have the UNIDEN UH7760NB too. You would never know though...its nicely hidden away in the passenger foot well area with a sly little plug for the mic tucked away in just under the centre console. The Mic sits in the centre console storage bin until needed. Then i just 'plug'n'go. Been a fantastic reliable little unit so far. Also have two handheld GME radios for spares/mates/general campsite duties etc...wish i could say the same for them tho :/
2013 (12 build) GX Auto.......with safari snorkel, toyota bar, tow bar, roof racks, led spots with fancy newpro switchgear, uniden remote UHF and aerial, ARB bash plates, Roadsafe recovery points, digoptions radio, general grabber AT2s, cheap ebay roof rack that has stood up surprisingly well.....

                              Hi Gogetter,

I am looking for an option to install the UHF radio socket input in the centre console and I am unable to find out where I can get the socket to install in the centre console.

I got a Kakadu and I don't have a spare spot to fix it, which is a different issue altogether (have a separate thread on this http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...x-Prado-Kakadu)

If you don't mind, can you please let me know where you got that socket that you fixed in the centre console for UHF radio input. I am trying to find a suitable fitting for this but unable to.

Any help/suggestions will be greatly helpful for me.

                              Thanks
                              Kams

Thats similar to what I want to do with my 120.
I know amts is testing a prototype blank for doing that as well.
