  • NEW PRADO coming? Next year? 2015?

    Hey peeps,

As we know the 1kd engine has been in the Hilux since 05 (nearly 10 years).
I'm sort of waiting to see what TOYOTA do as far as a new Hilux & Prado and engine.
Kind of hoping for a 3.0-3.5 litre v6 or v8 :-) twin turbo

What I have heard is there will be something next year.

Anybody else have info on what might be coming?

There's a new Altitude model with lift up rear door, the spare tyre under the boot and a lost of the 2nd fuel tank.

New Hilux has been pushed back from 2015 to 2016, wouldn't be surprised if the new Prado is pushed also.

It will be interesting to see if this kills sales of the Land Cruiser. Its been long forecast that the barn door held back sales of the Prado.

I would still rather keep the barn door and the extra fuel capacity! Would be annoying if they remove the extra tank.
Would love a twin turbo v8 in a prado though

No idea when the next model is coming but heard a rumour it will be a monocoque chassis. Not sure if that will be a good thing.....

I would much rather a horizontally split door, like the Land Cruiser. It will just mean one of the first mods is a rear wheel carrier and another fuel tank.

So like the pathfinder we would be driving a Kluger . 4 wheel independent .
Don't know if I would like that, every model would have terrain select like the land rover and we could start lifting all wheels .
Would we have a V6 under the bonnet ?

Then again a white 200 gx is driveway @70k. Looking good if they stuff up the next Prado. Arguably Better fuel economy in real life as well.
Nobody is going to like loosing fuel capacity, it's even hard to downgrade to 150 after being used to 180
Mono is bad, I cant see them having 2 klugers, if they go independent all round they have really lost it.
                  V6 or v8 is peeerrrrrfect str85? Yukky!

How do you work that out? A mate has a 120 D4D and a 200 D4D, 120 gets 9-10 L/100klm, the 200 gets 12-14 L/100klm, same driver, same roads. Double the number of cylinders and you use more fuel...

Dad has a 2010 pathfinder that is 4 wheel independent and having driven it even with up graded suspension that is not something that u want a piece of. a total POS in my opinion. If prados go like this it will be very sad no mater what the motor

Anthony where are you getting your figures from for fuel economy . The in laws never have had the same fuel economy after steeping out of 120 D4d to 200 series . Kluger with low range, look what Nissan did with the Pathfinder.

No way a 200 series will get close to the fuel consumption of a Prado. Is this the same guy that can get 10L/100 from a 4 speed auto petrol? Mind you TopGear managed to get better consumption from an M3 than a Prius!

The barn door is the the way to go, the Cruisers with wheel underneath in soft stuff have heaps of drag I've been told by a few owners and drivers. I would pick the Prado over the Cruiser any day for that reason alone.

Yes agreed however, a more fuel efficient diesel/turbo diesel engine would be the pick of upgrades.

2016 suits me fine as by them the lease on my current car will be up and I can get a brand new model

Wow. This is the first time I've heard anyone praise the barn door or even prefer it.

Often its the reason people don't buy a Prado or Pajero and the reason these vehicles are not considered as a work trucks.

Lots of my colleagues would love to have a Prado as a work vehicle but until the barn door disappears they can't even be considered.
