Another vote for GripSport. John was very helpful and also helped me build a trailer mount to fit the Hi-Ride Carrier 2+2.

Just wondering if anyone has fitted a gripsport 2+2 rack to a 150? Is there sufficient clearance between the bikes and the tyre and does the rack need to be removed completely to open the rear door or do the upright supports lay down far enough to allow clearance?

I was keen on the isi rack but like the fact the Gripsport is easy to convert from a 2 bike to 4 bike rack and vice versa.

Which is the 2+2? I have the old style 3 bike rack and I had to cut about 20mm off the hitch insert so the mounting hole lined up. All good.

          Hi rwo,

I've got the 2+2. The upright is around 215mm from the centre of the tow bar pin which leaves me around 100mm to open the door. Not much room however I liked the flexibility of 2 or 4 bikes on. I also got a sleeve put on the A frame of my trailer which allows me to carry 2 bikes.

            Hi Prado fans,

I'm trying to find the right rack for our rig, 2 to 4 bikes and finding it difficult.

Have tried a Yakima stick up tray hitch and highlight hitch models and they either hit the spare wheel or the bike pedals hit the spare wheel. Basically the hitch section needs to be about 2 inches longer.

Am looking at the Thule vertex or equivalent at this stage, does anyone have any other recommendations?

            Cheers,

            Luke

If it's only the spare that seems to be a problem, I read on here that another member had the same issues with his tow bar / bike rack so Wynnum Tow Bars were able to make up a longer hitch thingy to clear the spare. Not sure on the extra strain on the bar but with bikes it should be ok.

I'll also have the same problem when I get around to getting a tow bar / bike rack combo so some let us know how you get on please.

I have been in discussions with ISI regarding purchasing a 4x4x4, their product is designed specifically to accommodate the Prado and the spare wheel by using an extended beam to support the bikes away from the door and a multi-fit hitch (just has 3 sets of holes drilled) to accommodate slightly smaller or larger tyres on the door. The guys seem very knowledgeable not only regarding their product but the fitment of it and what needs to be addressed on particular vehicles.

I'm almost set to purchase, but just need to convince myself that the best part of $1K is an appropriate amount to spend for a rack to hold bikes!

Do it. I have an ISI carrier and it is great. It's only a two bike carrier but it is super fast to put on the car (if you leave the hitch on) and you can be away for a ride within minutes. The build quality and rigidity is great as well. I have taken mine camping a couple of times now with some decent 4wding in the mix. It doesn't rattle on currogations and it holds the bikes extremely securely. I looked at all the others, but the clearance issue and fast attachment was what won this over for me. Great carrier.

Thread resurrection - trying to contact ISI Bike Carriers - their website has no phone number and their contact form is not working for me.
Anyone have a phone number for them?

Just to chip in that I have the 4 bike version of the Thule http://www.thule.com.au/details.php?...ex_Tilt_5_Bike
Very well made, although 4 bikes is quite cosy on it and take a while to get them aligned corrected.
Don't forget that in many States you need a number plate holder with full lights if it sticks out more than about 3 bikes.

I've got the Thule swing away which works much better than this as you can swing the bikes away from the rear door and still get full access, the vertex here tilts the bikes away and can damage the bikes?

I'm pretty sure I've decided on a YAKIMA Holdup 2. Only issue is needing a hitch extension to clear the rear tyre.

Agree with REN470 that the Thule 'swing' models might be even better. My Thule Vertex 4 easily clears the spare wheel (and you can pop the tail gate open slightly). I don't drop my carrier down with the bikes on (as the manual also advises against this)
