            Big weekend.

Have you got a temp gauge for the tranny?
If so how much drop in temp did you get after fitting the cooler?

Was going to wait until i tow my campervan a few times to see what sort of temps i get to mine, before fitting an additional cooler. Just in case i dont need it.

            • No don't have any gauges…….yet.
She's a 1-KZ so I'm doing all I can to keep her cool.
There's not much room in the front for extra coolers.
Would love to fit a decent FMIC but there's no chance of that.

              • I recently fitted a Davies Craig cooler and fan to the front of the prado here are some pics

I redesigned the bracket that runs in front of the condensor to compensate for the cooler and fan. Simply mounted a switch for it inside it is not temperature controlled, it is simply temp running warm can flick the switch on for cooling. I previously had a cooler fitted to the front however since changing to this cooler i noticed the trans runs 20 degrees cooler. I have to take it for a drive on the beach soon as that is where i noticed the temp sky rocketed (especially in L4 in first gear giving it a bit in soft sand)

                  • Your photos got me motivated to fit my cooler.
But I draw the line at redesigning metalwork so mine sits close to the right hand side, fitting between the various items.
I made up a rectangular frame which bolts from the bottom member up to the top radiator cross member.
Then the D.C. cooler bolts to the frame with 8-bolts into tapped holes.
No 12v fan on my 30-row cooler but it's doing something as I can't touch the cooler's top tank for long, but I can the bottom tank no worries.
Mine is running through the radiator bottom tank first, wonder how they'd go by-passing the factory heat exchanger totally?
Thinking of removing the big old driving lights and going to a light bar instead. They must cause a huge obstruction to the radiator's air flow.

                    • I have bypassed my radiator. That is why i fitted the fan something to hopefully cools the trans if needed.

I will be remounting the cooler in a more appropriate way as i'm about to buy an ironman protector bullbar (when the wife lets me). So while the bar is off i will be mounting alot better. I also have some 9inch spotties sitting in front of it and will be removing soon to see if that decreases the temp. But my aftermarket gauge starts at 50 so not sure if possible as it runs around 55 deg now.

                          • Re-did the double sided sticky plus new clips to the left front flair.
Not a success, think she'll be flapping in another few days.
Next time I'll buy a new seal strip too, instead of working with the old one.
Might even drop the bull bar a little as the flair jambs tight in there towards the front.

                              • Had the lower control arms replaced.. again.
Last year I replaced all the ball joints, control arm bushes and tie rod ends. I ordered all the parts through Amayama exceot i couldnt get lower control arm bushes so ordered them from an an line shop figuring it only does about 5000km a year so should last long enough. A year later and less than 5000km the steering became very eratic and this was found to be because the lower control arm bushes were stuffed.
It just goes to show that crap made it in China is still crap. Expensive learning exercise, next time it will sit in the shed until I can get decent parts
