New Tyres - Maxxis AT980x 5...Done

The Maxxis 980's are a brilliant tyre!

I have a set on my BT-50 and am thoroughly impressed with them. Been off road a few times with them really good tyre!

Will definately put a set on the prado next time!

So whats the deal with these and the BFGs? I've been told they're a copy and I've been told that Maxxis bought a/the license to make them to the same specs... anyone know the deal?

My thermo fan controller arrived today and while I'm happy with it for the most part... there are some things I do not like about it.

I first opened the box and the main control unit is not a sealed unit and is intended to be mounted in the cabin. This means they intend for me to run power for the fan all the way from the battery, into the cab and then back out to the fan again. I think not. Instead, I'll run its output wire to my current relay.

Still though, Im very happy with the adjustable controller which is a 52mm gauge with adjustable temperature, current temperature displayed and also led indicator to tell me if fan is on or off.

Put Nolathane Bushes on the front sway bar links as the rubber ones that came with the links flogged out in one month.

Got a bee in my bonnet about the rats nest of wiring under my dash.

Everything that was added on top of another add on.

So.

Ripped.

Everything! Gauges, lights, uhf, stereo, amplifiers, phone cradle, remote start system, alarm, proximity entry, push button start and reverse camera.

While the plan is to start again and install everything in one swoop and wire it properly using fuse junction blocks and busses.

I have to admit, it was strangely satisfying driving a normal vehicle for once. Although I'm still trying to push the start button and wondering why the bastard won't start...

I just put super pro bushes in the entire front end, but used the rubber ones that came with the new links. I'll be interested to see how long mine last...

Im feeling the same after adding things on over time. I look at the wires at the battery and shudder.

So. Thought I'd report back with skme numbers with the thermo fan.

Fan is set to switch on at 86C and back off at 77C. Thermostat opens at 82C.

When the ambient temp stays at 25 or below:
Freeway/Highway at sustained speed will have temps fluctuate between 75-83. Fan doesn't switch on. Makes me a happy man.

Driving through traffic sees 75-86C typically the fan switches as I accelerate away from traffic lights. Since the thermo stat is now open and my engine is spinning, it's not long before it dips back down and stays there until a hill or lights.

I'll update sjortly with a loaded car trailer and 30C day!

Finished the follow me home, domelight with ignition off and retained accessory power wiring at work today.

New amplifier has arrived but am holding off the install as there are a few other things to be done first.

Yes. So the dome light and headlights are linked through my alarm system.

When I unlock the car, they automatically come on for upto 30 seconds or when I turn the ignition barrel.

Also when I turn the engine off they automatically come back on again for 30 seconds or until I lock the car.

There is a bit of work involved for sure.
Couple of relays, some diodes and a viper keyless entry or alarm.

The trick is doing so that the headlight reminder doesn't come on straight away and you don't trigger the car into thinking a door is open when the some light comes on.

Yes... plus more! Don't forget I have the proximity keyless entry, push button start and remote start. Plus the 120 doesn't have retained accesory power where everything continues to run after turning off the key until I open the door.

Not boasting or anything haha
