  • Not so much done to the 90, but scored bargain of the year!

Found a guy selling a year old personal EPIRB on Gumtree. RRP $330, Online $270, second hand $95!

He had never registered it but couldn't find the receipt for warranty or to return it.

Bought it off him, registered it with AMSA and then opened the soft case to put it inside and BAM! here is his reciept, so bargain price, mint condition and warranty if required and 5 years left on on the battery!

I'm sorry Darran, I didn't see your post until just then.

Overall I'm very happy with it. I compared it to their standard bar of the same size which showed some impressive light but the light temperature and control of the beam easily got the extra dollars out of my wallet.

Ease of fitting is difficult to say for me... It's my job! All in all I spent about 30 minutes tidying up from my previous overhead spotlights and transfering to the light bar. I didn't use the wiring loom as the wiring was pre-existing. I probably wouldn't use it anyway as I'm pretty anal retentive about wiring neatness and all my wiring is cut and terminated to the length required. For the beginner though, it could be worth the investment as just about everything in the kit is pre-terminated and becomes plug and play.

I'll post some photos shortly of this and some others.

        • Pulled the top of the engine off to fix a leaking rocker cover that seems to of got worse the past few weeks.

Was thinking it would just be the gaskets.

Nope. Looks like some one dropped this at some stage and did a bodge job with gasket sealant to hide it.

This exposed itself once i cleaned all the sealant and dirty oil off.

              • Installed Dynamat in the rear of the Prado today. Hopefully will make it a little quieter.
Ran out of the material so will have to do the from another weekend

                • Reason your buying the expensive stuff? Unless used in an audio application, I've found fatmat to be a cheaper option.

Thought I'd finally post up some of the pictures I've mentioned lol...

The 16" Davies Craig thermo all mounted in the factory cowling.

                  Korr Xtreme 560D light bar

Korr lighting strips mounted under the bonnet going through a bonnet switch and power switch.

Needed new rotors, so I went with DBA slotted.

Battery terminals replaced with this spiffy guy for the positive block.

More to come another time... lol

                  • Ranj did you replace the viscous fan with an electronic one? If so, why?

Mine's just had an alignment & balance after installing new suspension components. Also installed some custom made sway bar disconnects. I've been driving without the front sway bar for a while now, feels great to have stability back again!! Pics in my build up: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post522493

                    • Yep. Replaced it. First off, the clutch had packed up and the fan was stuck on. Putting a fair load on the motor and my fuel consumption went out the window.

Weighing up my options, I could see three.

Repair: unsure what the fault is and could take way longer to repair than expected. Considering I've never fixed one, I may find myself taking it on and off multiple times. But would be the most cost effective.

Replace: Fairly cost effective and straight forward.

Convert: For the average person this is the least cost effective method and potentially quite difficult to mount it properly and maintain the shroud. Without the shroud... you're just throwing money away. But since I had the fan already and a full workshop to do it, I had the whole thing mounted within 2 hours and ready to roll.

The only thing left to do is to mount a cut off switch and big arse bright light to tell me when I've switched the fan off myself. Mind you, I've used a waterproof connector.

Engine response is marginally different... but definetly different. So far, no noticeable fuel economy gains but I wasn't expecting anything really. The one thing that did surprise me was that I was expecting the motor to have a little more vibration since there was no great weight hanging off the water pump. But the exact opposite happened... damn motor purrs so smoothly now. Especially at idle.

Not a conversion for everyone and if I didn't have the fan laying around I probably wouldn't have taken that path. But now I'm glad I did.

Yes. Very very happy with it. Currently have a cheapish pair of HID spots on the bullbar that are outperformed by it. It's like a light bar from hell. Haha
