      • Sure thing mate. here is. What I could find. I don't have any directly of it but it's currently out of the car and carpet removed so if you want any photos, just ask...

I'm currently in the process of redesigning mine and this one is was just a quick knock up one afternoon that ended up staying there for years. I've been half tempted to fibreglass one up... could even do them custom made for some people...

Once I have a base mould laid up I can change it to however I like.I run a handful of engine gauges ever since a recent engine scare and am tempted to move them all up top.

Anyway, here's what I could find...

        • Brief run down... in the front section is compartment for my small uhf a couple of switches and an external mic that was used for both the uhf and the hands free. There was an interior light up front with a door setting and also map lights, this was pilfered from a vt/vx commodore and required some fairy dust wiring to make it all work.

The whole console ran from the front oem dome light and was suspended from rearview mirror mouting holes (hindsight shows that it was too heavy and has stripped those threads requiring the use of self tapers cut very short)

In the back half was a single din dvd player that feeds the headrest screens. Not the replacement type headrests but actual screens mounted into the oem headrest.

In between the front and rear section you can see that it curves away from the roof. This is used as a storage section for paper maps pertinent to the trail being used at the time.

What would I change and where did I go wrong? Well I mentioned earlier that it was suspended in the front from the two bolts that hold the rearview mirror. This only lasted 10,000kms before I noticed the console had a real sway about it! So after tightening the screws a bunch of time. It finally pulled through and Ive had to resort To large gauge self tapers cut short.

I was trying to be careful about having it sit to low. I never hit my head on it but my wife did... on a regular basis.

Also when I was making measurements and being careful about being too low, I forgot to take into account the depth of the commodore light and it's right there in my rear view mirror!

I liked the map compartment but i think in the end that was my downfall to the vision and head hitting drama

As I said, ask for photos. I'll try and take some When I get outside shortly. If you like,pm me your number and I'll send you some picture messages of it as it will be so much quicker.

Fitted the whole kit bare in mind i never had abs before so this was a pretty big job all new brake lines diff housing hubs wiring
Havnt got the trc working just yet as theres 3 wires that talk to the engine ECU and being a 120 ecu its not just a matter of pluging them in
            Stopping power is phenomenaly increased
My car is a series 1 1996 one and all this was out of a series 2 abs in the late are very different

              • Yeah im very keen to test it out! I know some ppl hate it but some ppl get confused with VSC
VSC was available in the late 90s but not in aus as far as i know
But there is a simple mod that can turn all of this off with a switch. Ill be doing this if it becomes a problem

                • Common confusion I've noticed... traction stops the burnouts... vsc stops the donuts!

Well that's how I usually explain it lol

While I would do it for the fun of it... SWMBO will have different things to say.

Current plan is to put some cup holders in it that can be removed for cleaning but also big enough to hold my trusty Contigo travel mug. There will also be an led light on the inside of the exist bucket, a 2nd storage container on top with an led and then this lid will have a red led on a stalk for moving to throw some map reading light forwards to the passengers lap.
