    • Today... well today begins my new nightmare. For years Ive been fed up with the fuel consumption of the Prado. I know what the cause is... no O2 sensors and an engine that runs from it knock sensors.

Freshly delivered is an ecu, engine bay loom, MAP sensor, coil pack and fuse box from a VS V6 Commodore.

Since this ecu is fully rewriteable using replacement memcal chips, I'll be transplanting this ecu into the Prado to run the 5VZ-FE engine. It will be a slow and painful process with much trial and error as work my way around the biggest issue of the Crank Angle and Cam Angle sensors. Issue being the amount of teeth on the commodores pulleys vs the Prados pulleys.

Also there will be many hours spent with a laptop monitoring, logging and rewriting fuel tables and so much more... once I get the damn thing running haha.

      Stay tuned!

Edit: one plan is to make it hot swappable between tunings.

        • Lol true that. I have a sneaking suspicion there will be a number of late night gibberish posts though and comments about about random pieces of code. Lol

          • Some of you may remember that back in November of 2014 I made a very simple water injection kit on 5VZ. A coke bottle and clear nylon hose with a water dripper system tap and fed it into the throttle body.

14 months and 80,000kms later I got curious as to how much cleaning the water had done. So I whipped the top half half of the imlet off and this picture shows the result. Incase anyone is wondering, yes my PCV is operating correctly so there should be an oil and carbon build up visible. But... nothing. Clean as a whistle.

            Overall... very happy.

I did shove an inspection camera down to see the ack of the valves and they were very clean also.

                • Started putting a Safari snorkel on 90 series 3.4lt V6 but ran into a problem as mine has a square air box not a round one like the instructions show. So the problem is the connecting duct is not going to fit as the fitting is square and me is round so will have to modify tomorrow.

                  • i purchased inter cooler fittings, sealant and hose clamps and cut the end off the fitting to extend it around the corner through the body and clamped it on directly to the airbox

                    • Got a quote from my local Toymota dealer for upper and lower balljoints, tie rod ends and control arm bushes. I knew they would be gold plated prices but bleeding hell....over $1900 bucks.
So I got a price off a TRW distributor for a set of theirs ball joints and control arm bushes. Double bleeding hell they were even dearer, didnt think it was possible over $400 for lower joints

                              • Triple 5 make fantastic quality ball joints and tie rod ends, made in Japan and not overly priced like some. I've also used Superpro upper and lower control arm bushes in mine with no complaints. Picked them up for $220 for the complete set, upper and lower.

The to do list is getting shorter.
