  • No Sound on Kakadu Radio/DVD Navigation Head Unit

I just picked up my used Kakadu last week and I am having problems with the navigation/audio head unit. There is no sound at certain times (actually most of the time for the last few days).

For example, I have selected radio, turned up the volume but there is no sound. When turning the knob, there is no display bar appearing with the volume level either.

I push the button and it says 'Audio Off'. I push again and I guess it should be on but there is no sound.

Occasionally I have stopped & restarted the car and then mysteriously the sound starts. When I turn the volume knob, the display bar appears and I can see the volume knob is adjusting the volume eg from 14 to 35, or whatever.

The bluetooth headunits are not in the car at the moment with my latest testing. I checked the rear multimedia player and I tried it with the 'Speaker Output' both ON and OFF but still no sound.

Mysteriously the DVD sound was playing on the screen and with the sound working fine the other day, and the radio has also worked at random times.

Any ideas where to start with this, other than paying the local Toyota dealer to start investigation?

I connected my bluetooth today .. received a call ... I could not hear the other person

Maybe a local auto electrician would be better.

Or maybe I have messed up a setting.

Nov 2009 Build Kakadu ... I purchased it interstate just recently so I guess I should use my statutory warranty. I don't think they'll have any issues helping to resolve, so I guess I should be asking them this question .... but it just seems like it must be something simple ... unless it is some small broken solder joint buried within the navigation unit.

Perhaps check the manual in case there is some setting that was activated.

Solved ... Took to Toyota dealer and the fault was the amplifier failure. Replaced and all is perfect.

I have a 2009 Kakadu doing the same no Audio sometimes and the audio emits a really high pitch sound that I can not hear but other people do.
The DTC code reports a speaker short circuit, I have checked the speakers all seemed to be ok except Toyota use 3 Ohm and 6 Ohm speakers just to be different.
Can anybody tell me the cost of a new amplifier for the Kakadu the pioneer version is one I have.

I just experienced this. No audio at all. The speakers "pop" when the ignition turns on.
Does anyone know where the amplifier is in the Kakadu? I want to check it before I go asking the dealer to check it out.

Found the amp under the drivers seat. Disconnected it and reconnected and the audio worked but popped and crackled as I wiggled the wiring. Ill be off to the dealer for a replacement under warranty. Hope its not a special shipped out of Japan! (Already had 2 parts shipped Japan at pre-delivery, still waiting!)

Man I am going through the same thing. We received our used 2014 Kakadu last week and straight away had issues with volume control, reversing camera not working or coming whilst driving forward. Still under new car warranty so it's at the dealer now. They have asked to keep it in over night... is that a good sign?
                      Anyway time will tell
