I looked in the manual for a filter but didn't find it.
Any information muchly appreciated on how to find and change this.

    Thanks
    Mark
Not only does mud =$$$ it = crap air con.
Take off your fan & fan shroud & reverse flush the mud from your radiator & condenser core. Lots of water till it runs clean.

    • Dave try washing out the alternator.
Did you park in that smelly slop hole too? Or drive through it? LMFAO
Anyway no shortage of mud in Tassie, so a good rinse ASAP is always best.
Not only do you cause lots of premature wear on the alternator, all other bearings they get sprayed with crud too.
Drive belt idler bearings, starter, timing belt & idler (not mud pool proof)
Diff & transfer case seals, handbrake assy, it parked in pool it can seep into front wheel bearings. Etc etc........
Try & find a nice fresh river

I remember the smell of muddy water in under the carpet, mmmmmm......... Lots of cleaning too do.
Well once the whole interior is out & the carpet is hung up & washed down it will be like a new truck again.

      Have fun kids! Lol......

IIRC the OE is 90-100A? It will be interesting to see if you notice any change in battery charging with the higher A alternator.

90amp from memory. I don't have volt gauges for the batteries (yet) so it will be hard to see if it charges faster, that would just be a bonus if it happened anyway.

Thanks Anthony. Yes, AJ and I shared the same mud except I didn't wet my interior.

I'll give it a good wash tomorrow when I get back into Hobart. Failing that, at 150,000km it may be time for a new alternator anyway.

It will be interesting to see if this alternator is 'smart' like the OE or it puts out a constant V.

Driving today it was showing around .3 or .4 of a volt more than I have seen in recent years, not sure if that's the new alternator or whether the original was not as good as it once was. No doubt the big mud puddle last week was the straw that broke the camels back, but we have driven through shitty muddy country for kilometers at a time in the past, so it's fair to assume it's had a hard life.

                Cheers Andrew

                  • Gave it a wash after 3 weeks accumulating mud and dirt in Tassie. New air filter and have to get some bolts for the lower bash plate.

I am taking all my Tassie dirt home with me, might put it in the garden and see if that will make it as green as Tassie

                              • Put some new bolts into the lower bash plate to replace the ones missing somewhere between Montezuma Falls and South Cape (Tas). Also bought a new alternator in preparation for the looming death of the present unit. It's bouncing all over the place from 13 to 14 volts.
