    • Raptor racks fitted to support the MaxTrax

All the parts seems quite robust and uses the Maxtrax pins.

Fitting had some challenges. Wasn't much room in between the mesh on the rack. There are 2 ways of fitting one of the plates which wasn't explained in the instructions. This resulted in me having to undo every bolt and start over having lock-tighted everything. The pins ended up on a slight angle due to the impingement of the washers. Finally figured it out and swapped the plates around. Also bought a new fibreglass long handled shovel. Had to relocate the quick-fists to support the shovel as it used to hang where the Max Trax are now.

      • From personal experience lock up the Maxtrax with a good quality bike lock. Some low life stole ours by undoing the pins on the traxrax. Luckily There was some unique damage and I recognised them. Diffs usually run better with oil but who knows, it might start a trend.

        • They're secured with padlocks. Anybody with the right tools could take everything if they really wanted too.

          • well prep is key when getting ready for any big trip

after fitting some suspension kits for some other Prado members, and showing them about pulling the lower front arm bolts & never sieze them so they do rust up

i thought better do mine and get it wheel aligned and lift the front a bit more

so after fitting the AMTS diff drop kit , i started to remove everything to get the front struts out
1st bolt no worries little stiff but broke free straight away
2nd bolt no so lucky , bit of too & fro and managed to free it and it knocked out
3rd bolt BUGGER jammed solid GRRRR!!
4th bolt same GRRRRR even more

sprayed some rust remover / penetreen worked back & forth and it freed up the first one but had to knock it all the way out PHEW !!
same on the other one but that was another 1/2hr to get it out

so an 1hr job turned to 3hrs but now it's out so clean them all up and see what i have to replace tomorrow
the adjust the springs to gain some more front height

i have never been through water or mud but i guess the previous owner had ( 64K on the clock when i got it !!)

              • Replaced the clips on the front door panels. The lower ones were pretty brittle hence the rattling. Trust Toyota to have 3 different coloured clips.

                        • Finally got around to check what was that rattling noise in my drivers door, which was driving me nuts. After I took all of the timing off, I realised it was the plastic skirting on the outside which was rattling, as the clips have some free play and do not hold it flush with the door, or the seal that runs along the edges of the skirting shrink so I put in some tape along the places where it rattled, let's see how will that work out. At least I cleaned inside of the door, and the trimming properly and greased up the window mechanism.
