How did the 1kz perform over that trip? Have you worked out how much fuel you used on the trip.
Sorry for late reply mate. trying to get unpacked is a b#@$# :P

Performed great, only issue on the whole trip was a blown polyair bag , but thats aftermarket stuff.

Did the degrud of manifold and blocked egr up in darwin, runs alot better and have gained better fuel consumption.

Towing didn't see much improvement on fuel but a lot of variables there also.

getting under 13L/100km now and while towing van was 2.5t+ / prado was 2.8t :O figures anywhere from 19-23L/100km

our last leg was down the back of Gloucester through the thunderbolts way nsw, this was really the only time the car struggled with the van, there is still plenty of hill climbs although your are descending. Back to 2nd gear alot think there was a few 1st gears as well.lol . up until then we travelled through S.A., W.A and N.T & QLD and the terrain is pretty flat going and the 1kz towed great.

You'll need 1 x garage creeper, 5 x bits of string/rope. Using 4 x bits of string tie each corner of the garage creeper so the creeper sits centrally under the car. Get the missus to lay on the creeper and use the 5th bit of string to tie her on securely. Now drive the car and replicate the situation where you hear that particular noise. You will have to listen carefully as there will no doubt be another annoying sound emanating from under the car whilst you perform this important test.

Possibly, this is my suspicion too.

              • Took the 120 down to the local park today to run out rope on the new Runva 11XP and winch it back in under tension. I had the handbreak on a little to keep the tension on and it was an easy job, although you do need to keep the Prado in a straight beeline for the winching anchor point to ensure that the rope winds on properly.

                    • I got my LED kit today and installed it tonight.
My advice for anyone doing it. I used a plastic tool so the plastic trims don't get damaged. It's actually used for pulling apart laptops.
                      https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...tic%20tool.jpg

Front maps lights: As said a few times, slowly and gently pry the light cover open.
                      Before and after:
                      https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...p%20lights.jpg
                      Both done:
                      https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...lights%202.jpg

Door lights: Pry open from the corner pointing to the front of the car. There is a metal clip there that springs it out. Unclip the power cable and then unclip the clear plastic cover.

                      https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...r%20After1.jpg
                      https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...r%20After2.jpg

Roof lights: Pry open where the clips are. Gentle as it's tight. (Yes, I'm still talking about lights here )
                      https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...of%20light.jpg
I didn't have to do the center roof light as we have a Roof top DVD player there with built in LED lights.

Number plate lights: Unscrew the light assembly. The rubber seal and plastic comes apart. Mine was covered in dust and opened rather "quickly".
                      Before: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...latebefore.jpg
                      After: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...plateafter.jpg

Now my next question. The right number plate light has a reverse camera in it. It's not in use (we have another cam). How does this assembly come apart? There looks to be an existing led globe in there (doesn't work). There were 4 very small screws when I took out but it still doesn't budge. Does anyone else have this built in camera assembly?

                      • My bro came over today to try and see if my awning will fit on his 90. He's getting ready for a long trip in May and giving the old girl a birthday beforehand.
The awning fits. So now I just have to convince the wife to sell it to him so I can buy an ostrich wing 😉

                        • Not exactly what I did today but over the last few weeks..

Fitted a front mounted camera, rear camera, selector switch and Grande head unit.
                          Fitted TJM steps/semi sliders
Replaced faulty dual battery module (why do these things fail only when you're on a trip and need the power for the freezer?)
Replaced faulty temp sensor in cooling system for Madman EMS
Replaced faulty thermocouple for Madman EMS
Replaced 180W lightbar under warranty from Sunyee on Ebay (Anodising had faded badly to a dull gold colour - ugh)
Fitted 125W solar panel to Rhino roof rack tray
Fitted another power outlet in centre console for the wife's phone charger when we're travelling
Fitted second hand Airtec snorkel from Gumtree
                          Fitted voltage booster diode
Fitted battery isolator to winch power cable - this was on my mind for a while in the event of a front end collision the B+ve cable would most likely short to ground in the bull bar and the result wouldn't be pretty.. I've witnessed a few battery explosions and..

Pics to follow this weekend if anyone's interested

                          Cheers

                            • Well, after 6200km Broome - Perth - Albany - Broome, and no spots, I went to the self serve car wash. Note to self, if you spray the car with the pre-soak make sure it doesn't dry in the 35 degree heat before you wash it off. Got the stuff all over the windows and paintwork. Might have to polish it off on the weekend.
