  • My new GXL 150 TD auto

I have just started on preparing my new 150
So far have put on a tow bar
ICOM IC 400 pro UHF GME AME 4702 antenna
    50 l Down under Fridge/freezer
Any suggestions on mods to do the Cape and across the top end without going hardcore?

    Hi, and welcome,

Suspension a bar & winch, would be high on my list as a start.
I have just upgraded my 120, to a 150, and I would be interested in how / where you mounted the ICOM

          Thanks
I have now commited to a TJM bar and winch as well as the snorkel because it looks better to me ...more stteamlined.I am cosiderng the Black Widow drawer fridge slide barrier setup .....both suppliers have some show specials starting this week.
I haven't mounted the IC 400 permanently yet ...will work on that more when the bar is fitted..however it does slide part way into the compartment below the screen.
I am waiting for the main heavy items to be fitted before going for a Bilstein/King 2" lift.Any recommendation of Sydney suppliers?
As far as tyres go I am still working it out BFG or Cooper and standard size? Is it absolutely necessary to carry 6th wheel and how? And what to do with 5 new Dunlop AT20 s?
          Thanks again Alex

No 6th wheel not totally necessary and people will buy your Other tyres as far as size go as big as legal.

I thought 15mm increase in NSW was the limit ..any advantage going wider? .....perhaps this is better answers in tyre forum

Not sure on nsw but Qld just changed, not so much wider but I mean try and go the largest legal diameter possible

The new rules in Qld are easy to follow as long as you don't have stability control. Up to 50mm lift with suspension and up to 25mm lift through tyre changes (50mm diameter). Throw stability control into the mix and the rules aren't so clear. I run 275/65 17 which were legal under the old regime which was in force when I bought my 150 (maximum increase of 15mm in diameter). The extra width is immaterial. When it comes time to replace these tyres I will be getting some advice. The Qld rules are being reviewed again at the moment so who knows what that will bring.

In maybe 100,000k of outback travel I have never damaged a tyre to the point I couldn't repair it, so I would say a second spare is not totally necessary, but the more remote you are the more that extra insurance would give peace of mind. Cape York is not really remote, lots of places within close proximity that can help in a worst case scenario. Across the Gulf can be very remote depending on which way you go.

As for you at20's, have a look here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ular-H-T-Tyres, no idea how close you are to each other but it might be a match made in heaven.

                      Cheers Andrew

Unfortunately I'm in Sydney ...but that's a good idea I'll post on PP and see how I go.
With thee repairs is one of the plug kits OK or do you need to be able to patch? And how hard is it to remove/replace a case on the road?

How do you find the access to fridge? Is it too high to see into when you slide it out?

Fridge is not to high as I made a drop down slide, see here for details http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post243242

The video Snaga posted above of me breaking the beads shows how that is done, have a look here if you want a bead breaker http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...e-Bead-Breaker and removing and replacing the tyre is not hard if you know what your doing, maybe I should do a thread on that.

Personally I've only ever needed to use plugs while on a trip on my own tyres, but have swapped a few for others in the bush and its not really difficult. Whatever you use make sure you know how to use it before you leave home and don't rely on learning on the tracks.

                              Cheers Andrew
