  • WA - Shark Bay in June

Anybody travelled to Shark Bay/Denham around June? Just trying to find out other people's experiences up that way during that time.

    Thanks

I reckon any time from June onwards woulod be OK for Shark Bay. If staying at caravan parks, bookings would be essentual - I think there are 3 parks there, plus one at Monkey Mia.
I know a lot of folk who spend 3 or more months there every year, although unless you go fishing there is not a lot to do! The afternoon winds can be a problem, however most mornings are pleasant.
    A good place to relax!

The plan would be to camp in Francois Peron National Park. Have a pretty sturdy tent, but how windy are we talking? Does it stay windy throughout the night or quiet down again?

I haven't stayed at the National Park however tho whole area can get very windy! Usually comes in at around midday and can sick around until well into the night. You have probably seen this, however it may give you more information. http://www.sharkbay.org/francois_p eron_np.aspx If this won't open, just google, Francois Peron National Park.
Am sure there will be lots of other tent campers. Would suggest you just go and enjoy, there is lots to see!

We were there start of August last year, we stayed in Denham at one of the parks. Can't recall which one but we heard bad things about the others, but the one we chose was less than ordinary anyway. If I went again I would head for Cape Peron, unfortunately we ran out of time for that.

Monkey Mia is very commercialized, OK but not really my cup of tea.

The trip out to Steep Point is pretty rough and a full day trip at a minimum, but some spectacular views and well worth the drive.

Weather was perfect on our visit with hardly a breath of wind, we also didn't book accomodation and had no issues there either.

          Cheers Andrew
