  • Cooper Discoverer A/Tł

    Hi All

My 150's tyres have worn a bit, and it won't be long before needing to change.
Currently mileage is at 45K km. I am currently on the stock AT-20.

Contemplating to change to the Cooper Discovery AT-3.
Has anyone had any experience with this tyre?
    Will it be noisy?

Somebody has to ask. Why Coopers tyres?

Well why not? and when you say because of so called blow outs or treads lifting , i am still waiting for an actual Photo of the serial number and build date of the tyre in question from previous stories
20 years in the industry , no brand is immune to age (which is normally the cause)
The AT3 is a fantastic tyre

Ok, why so defensive? I didn't say anything about blowouts or treads lifting. But now that you mention it, I've had one set plus two tyres replaced under warranty due to chipping and cracks, and the third set showed the same signs when I dumped them at the tip. Couldn't fault the support by the distributor but the tyres were absolute crap. Bought a set of KM2's did two trips to the desert as well as my around town driving, had near 30k on them when I sold the car, still another 40k in them. I treated them the same in respect to tyre rotation and pressures.

I was only asking the question as too many people get hooked in by their advertising. I would suggest by your initial post you have already made up your mind to purchase or have already purchased and are looking for reassurance.

I won't ever trust the brand again.

Ahh the old tires debate. It's like the diesel vs petrol or Toyota / Nissan question.

I have them on my 120. They came with the car when bought with about 80% tread. No issues in a year of owning them. I hear more noise from my snorkel than the tires. Can't hear a thing with the windows up. I'd happily buy them again

Have them on ours, mixed highway, weekend off roading, towing a 2.3t van on holidays, etc, etc. Coming up to 80,000k's on them and never ever had an issue with them. Great in the wet, happy off road with them and not much noisier than stock. Only slight noise but nothing to bother you. Rotated every 10,000k and still have about 7-8mm left on them.

                  Hi All

                  Thanks for the feedback.

Have not really decide. I was sitting at Tyrepower last week while the missus tyres got changed to a new set.
The shop had the AT-3 on display. Looks good. I was hoping it would be much better than the AT-20 in terms of the occasional foray onto the beaches.

Reasonable feedback. Now will try to check out the price.

Have had Cooper AT3 for 16000km and they have been excellent on and off-road, can't fault them in any way. In the wet I have found them better than the Dunlop tyres.
If you have a VX / Kakadu or wish to swap to 18" rims, mine are up for sale, as I wanted a more aggressive thread. I have an ad up in Gum tree and will post it here too shortly....

I had the ST-Maxx on my old Patrol and they were excellent, not the same tyre but released at the same time as the AT-3 with Coopers "new" silica based construction. I had no tyre problems with the exception of "flow cracks" which are apparently a manufacturing fault. This occurred twice on the front set in 50,000km and had to be replaced, free of charge. It only occurred on the white writing side which means anyone running these tyres with the white inwards would not know. It something to do with the white layer of rubber separating from the tyre belts.

Otherwise they where hard wearing but slightly slippery tyres in the wet.

I'll g for Japanese tyres this time, I have had lots of coopers and no major dramas but I just don't need the worry anymore that the tyre won't do something stupid when you least expect it. And they are expensive so I'd rather put my money somewhere else.

                        Hi Wasafi,

I have found the Cooper AT-3 tyres to be a great addition to my 150 Prado. They stop a lot of the wallowing around compared to the standard Dunlops due to the stiffer sidewalls. Noise difference is negligible, I don't hear them at all.

I did 4,500kms late last year out to Birdsville, Innamincka and surrounds, with a short foray into the Simpson Desert, with many variation of dirt roads, horrendous rocky roads, gibber plains, with not a single flat or issue of any type. They were great in the desert sand. I like them better than the Dunlops on wet bitumen roads as well.

Like any brand of tyre, correct tyre pressures and picking your lines are your best friend.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Hi. I put the 265/70 17 at3 on mine and they do everything as claimed. Together with heavy duty suspension gives a way way way better drive. The extra diameter won't go astray for lift. There are heaps of good tyres out there. Get what you want. However if you are a low mileage driver these are probably not your pick as they will be too hard before you wear them out. I this were the case pirellis AT's have great reviews. Cheers the turtle

                            Hi All

Thanks again for all the feedback.

I just a quote for Maxxis Bravo 771. Quite a reasonable quote.
Internet feedback seems good and value for money.
Anyone our there have tried the Maxxis?

I have just replaced my BFG tyres for my Kakadu at 89000. No flat tyres in all that time. If I looked at them a bit better and not let them wear of on the inside I probably would have made 100000km. Wonderful tyres that performed well under all circumstances.
