  • Wanting to do a 2inch Lift

    Hi All,

As the tittle of the thread suggests I'd really like to do a 2inch lift on my 07' 120 GXL.

What I want in my suspension setup is something which is good for Towing (Jayco Expanda), provides same or similar level of comfort as the stock suspension, improves handling on and off road, anything else i missed that i should be aware of?

With so many options available out there I'm just getting frustrated and confused hence why I'm asking for help, can anybody help point me in the right direction of reputable brands which are strong enough to withstand our conditions?

Also when doing a 2inch lift what other components should be replaced or am i right keeping all other components under the car stock standard? I'm not a hardcore off roader the mrs drives the car during the week i just get it on the weekends and when we go away camping.

    Cheers

If you still have stock suspension then ANYTHING you fit will be better. To maximise comfort but still have load carrying capacity when you are towing I would recommend fitting airbags inside the rear coils, polyair or others. As for the brand I don't think you can go wrong with any of the normal options. I had Toughdog first up in my 120 and thought it was ok even though there was plenty of hate for it at the time here. I did have an issue and replaced it in a hurry with ARB stuff. This was fine though I had to change springs after a few weeks because I chose poorly. The TJM Gold I have on the 150 is very good indeed.

I was under the impression running air suspension off road wasn't ideal? I was looking at the old man emu stuff

Polyairs and others aren't direct replacement for your rear suspension. They're bags that sit inside the springs. They're really load levellers/ load assist devices. Inflate when loaded up. Deflate when empty.

+1 for the polyairs, perfect if you intend towing and loading up the rear of your prado. Let em down when u hit the tracks. I'd recommend bilsteins( au spec) and dobinsons. Brother in law has had em in his prado 4 yrs no complaints & plenty of trips offroad. Perhaps look at extended rear sway bar link pins as well. Good luck

I thought ome was pretty pricey. I got what I thought was the best value and a great ride from dobinson spring with blistering shocks. King springs were also an option

On my original Prado 120 I had the suspension upgraded by Darren at Autocraft, Geelong. I was extremely happy with the result and so last week took the new Prado 150, MY14 back to him for the upgrade. He specialises in suspensions and fitted Ridepro springs to the back and front, Polyair air bags in the rear coils and modified billstein struts. The result is pretty good. Since you are in Melbourne it might be worth giving him a ring and he can advise you what is appropriate given the loads you carry.

Thanks everyone for your replies I really appreciate it very much, I got your pm Jason apologies for not replying crazy weekend and full on with work today.
I had a quick look at the poly air website correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that they work in conjunction with the rear shocks/springs to provide you the correct ride height? So it's not a full airbag as such or am I completely misunderstanding something

I'm still no closer to finding a set up but am well on my way, just waiting on my bonus cheque to come in

                  Cheers

Polyairs are supplementary airsprings inside the coils so your understanding is correct. I don't think there is much between any of the suspensions.

The Polyairs sit inside the coils.
You inflate them to level the vehicle back up when it's fully loaded.
They are a good thing for a car that is not fully loaded all the time.

                      Regards, Jason.

Not needed for a 2" lift

If you want to do a 2" lift yourself then this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ension-install is a really good place to start, that pretty much covers what you need to know about the install.

As AMTS said, springs and shocks is all you need to change for a 2" lift, as always there is more you "can" do but not needed for a standard lift.

                            Cheers Andrew
