  • 2014 Altitude Model

I attended my local Toyota dealership yesterday and spoke with the saleswoman (very friendly young lass) and asked if she had heard any word of an Altitude model for 2014. Suprisingly, she told me that only the day before Toyota Corporate had sent them a sneak preview image of the Altitude model earmarked for around September this year. She said that in the image sent to them it showed the Altitude model as having the spare wheel taken off the back door and slung underneath in place of the spare fuel tank. She said that they had questioned as to whether the image shown was the overseas model, and had received response that it was the model due for Australia.

Time will tell as to the authenticity of the claims of course.

That is correct, lift up rear door and spare tyre underneath, single fuel tank.

Well that's a bit pointless for Oz really. Are we being lumped with a joint AU/NZ model to save Toyota some $$? The spare tyre underneath might be OK if you don't want to go off the bitumen but that single fuel tank isn't a good thing if you want to go touring. Any money you save by choosing the Altitude will soon get chewed up when you have to stump up the cash for a rear wheel carrier and long range fuel tank.

Biggest mistake they will make. A lot of people buy prado, firstly because they are a Toyota, and pretty good vehicle and certainly people who do a lot of outback travelling love the fact they have a good fuel capacity. I remember people when getting the 150's they were spewing as they lost 30L compared to the 120's 180L. Now they will be down to what, possibly 90L tank ?? Stupidity on Toyota's behalf. Approx $2500k for a spare wheel carrier plus the added weight, then another what 1500 to 2k for a long range tank ?? crazy.......Cheers Steve

Is the single tank only on the Altitude? If so what's the big deal? Most Prado's are shopping trolleys that never leave the city, if you want to tour then don't buy the Altitude, simple.

          Cheers Andrew

Concur with above. There are loads of Prados around me, most would have never been off road, may occasionally go to the local beaches/state forests, and used for towing. 90l would be well sufficient for most people. If you were a serious tourer you would buy a model without these 'new features'. Fair Dinkum to Toyota for making a model (assuming it's just the altitude) for a bludgeoning market!!

If its only on the Altitude then fair enough, as said buy another model eg GXL but if all the same ?? could be an issue especially if its a petrol, we need the capacity lol......Cheers Steve

                  Yep, only on the Altitude.

I think it is going to be a great seller, sure it won't suit everyone but still a great vehicle packed with extras.

87 litre fuel tank would mean 1000km range in theory in a stock vehicle, a lot of people will be happy with that

No way will you get 1000km unless you are rolling down hill the whole way

Wow, I wish I would of known about this when I placed my order, thinking of getting a long range tank and defiantly getting kaymar rear bar. Love the look of the overseas rear door and actually joked to the missus about getting a complete door from our local friendly kiwi wrecker lol

I wish my 150 had barn doors like the 70 series wagon. I can't open the useless swing out door in my garage with the roller door closed. It's a pain in the butt shopping too. Heavy, and whats the go with the crappy door handle, why couldn't it be the same as all the other door handles.....

                              Cheers Brad
