Hi Guys,
Unfortunately, BLKD4D (Anders) has had some work issues and no longer has time to organise the pradopoint cape trip he started a thread about. He has asked a few of us South East Queenslanders to take over the organisation of the trip. So here goes. We're going to follow Anders original plan pretty closely and we've had a chat about what to do for the run home that he'd left open. The updated details are below. Note that anyone who wants to go their own way is more than welcome to come and go as they please, this is just the rough itinerary we're aiming to follow. Apparently the coconut resort is the place to stay in Cairns so I'll be starting from there. (See post 30 for booking details)
Planned itinerary is:
Day 1: Thursday 26th June - Leave Coconut Resort Cairns, attempting to take the CREB track through the Daintree to Lion's Den hotel (No booking required).
Day 2: Friday 27th June - Day off, travel into Cooktown to explore and retire to the Lion's Den again.
Day 3: Saturday 28th June - Leave Lions Den via battlecamp road stopping at Archer River Roadhouse, famous for the giant Archer Burger! - No Booking Required.
Day 4: Sunday 29th June - Archer River Roadhouse via bramwell junction for lunch to Dalhunty River partway up the OTT.
Day 5: Monday 30th June - Dalhunty River to Twin Falls/Elliot Falls - BOOK ASAP see post 13.
Day 6: Tuesday 1st July - Day off at twin falls (This is apparently the best place on the whole trip)
Day 7: Wednesday 2nd July - Twin Falls to Nolans Crossing/Jardine River (Depends if there's enough room for us to camp near nolans and watch the action
Day 8: Thursday 3rd July - Nolans/Jardine River to Loyalty Beach Camp Ground No deposit reqired, group booking to be confirmed 1 week out).
Then 3 days off at the tip. Suggestions:
Day 9: Friday 4th July - Drive out to see the tip and take photos at the sign
Day 10: Saturday 5th July - Tour to Thursday Island
Day 11: Sunday 6th July - Day off relaxing or maybe fishing charter for those keen.
For those keen to do the OTT back again, they may want to leave us here but in the interests of seeing more, we're planning to take the bypass road back.
Day 12: Monday 7th July - Loyalty Beach back to Weipa via bypass roads. See post 31 for booking details
Day 13: Tuesday 8th July - Day off in Weipa to explore
Day 14: Wednesday 9th July - Weipa to Musgrave Roadhouse - No Booking required (maybe stopping early at Coen if it's getting too late)
Day 15: Thursday 10th July - Musgrave Roadhouse to Lakefield national Park. Explore the tracks a bit and pick a nice campground.
Day 16: Friday 11th July - Lakefield NP to Palmer River Roadhouse (They take bookings but don't expect it will be required. worst case we go down the road a bit)
Day 17: Saturday 12th July - Palmer River Roadhouse back to Cairns.
Keep in mind that it seems no-one going on this trip has ever been before so we will all be assessing how safe we think each crossing is and anytime we're not comfortable tackling it, there is always the option to change the plans and take a bypass track. Having said that though, plenty of novices go every year so we're quite keen to try most things if we can.
Of course, the usual trip disclaimer applies:
PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMER BELOW; IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO AGREE TO THE TERMS SET OUT THEREIN THEN PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND. THIS INCLUDES PRADOPOINT MEMBERS & THEIR FAMILIES & FRIENDS!

Having never been before, we're a little unsure what the tracks will be like so we're relying on Anders suggestions for minimum vehicle requirements as pasted below:
Minimum vehicle requirements or recovery equipment?
Ok what should people have this might open a can of worms.
Winch! only put one on if you were going to put one on don't do it just for this trip. Will be enough people that have them.
Lockers! Only if you had planed to put lockers in. 150 Traction control works well
Suspension! It would help but you certainly could do it with standard suspension you may just scrap a little more.
Side steps! If your car isn't raised you may touch your side steps so be prepared for some bends maybe.
Front rear Recovery Points - Definitely required!
Diff Breathers Water in the diffs no good.
Transmission Breather.
Snorkel! Many cars go up there without but would be a better idea to have one. Have a good blind which i will be bringing again.
Tyres! Set of LT, don't have to be mud terrains .
Your own recovery gear !
First aid kit , fire extinguisher
