This might help. It's an article from 2009
    http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...el=LandCruiser Prado&start=2

The top-spec Kakadu added CRAWL control, four-camera Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM), a rear diff lock, Multi-Terrain Select (MTS), sunroof, touch-screen satellite-navigation, 14-speaker Pioneer audio with DVD stacker, a ceiling-mounted rear DVD screen with three wireless headphones, two headphone jacks and AV input, a refrigerated centre bin, leather and mock wood steering wheel, wood and mock metal instrument panel and key-linked driver’s seat and steering column memory.

The only option for the Kakadu was a Pre-Crash safety System (PCS) and radar cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls, which cost $2500 but deleted the CRAWL control, electronic locking rear differential, MTS and one of the MTM cameras.

Yeah I see what you mean. I dug through the feature list for you, under "Transmission & Drivetrain" they only list the centre diff lock but under "Other" they list diff locks (as in plural) so best check. Also check how many headphones you get, mine only had 2 but some say they got 3 (minor thing for me) and make sure the DVD remote is supplied and working (they are mega expensive to replace).

The article I quoted also listed 3 headphones.

Interesting. I checked with the previous owner some time back and he swears he only got 2 and the remote was in a 3rd box. Probably not a lot I can do about it now as I bought mine 2nd-hand via a dealer so would be hard to prove.

Thanks ... so I think we're back to where we started .. there is no offroad pack and CRAWL, MTM, etc is all standard .. but will double-check with the dealer to make sure.

Sorry Matt but I know this isn't correct, I have "offroad pack" listed in the delivery slip of the owner's manual. If you have the "cruise pack" you won't have crawl, the rear diff lock or MTS.

At some point they did combine the 2 packs but I know it wasn't 2009 or 2010.

The "offroad pack" IS the CRAWL, etc. which was the standard offering.

The "cruise pack" was combined in the 2012 update.

Pheww .. That was stressful ... Confirmed that the car has the CRAWL buttons and 2 diff lock buttons.

But if you chose the "cruise pack" instead you didn't get all that right? That's the way I read the article you linked. A friend with a 2010 Kakadu has the cruise pack but does not have the rear diff lock, don't think he has the crawl either.

Ah OK, I couldn't remember when it happened.

Well it was worth checking before the car goes on a truck to Victoria. Some would prefer the radar cruise for the safety factor but I'm happy I got the off road pack. Would have been nice to have both but I'm still happy.

Used the crawl control coming down off Billy Goat's Bluff and it worked a treat but brakes did get rather hot and had significant fade. I would have thought it would have helped keep the brakes cooler. Also tried low range 1st in S mode on the auto on some steep descents and that worked too but the big V6 kept wanting to run away downhill.

Crawl does things that people cannot. It allows differing and precise levels of energy to go to each tyre.

IMO though, a Prado with with locking front and rear differentials, would go just as far. Of course, tyres and articulation are both keys as well. A GXL with such diffs might be faster and the ride more bumpy etc. But also - the GXL would quieter as Crawl makes noises as it plays with the brakes a lot. Turning would in theory be tougher with locked front diff.

As far as Kakadu versus GXL, the Kakadu also has cameras that show the front rocks/track, and also show an imprint of the front wheel steering position on the same screen. Quite handy - also side cameras show the edge of the vehicle. The side cameras might be close to a gimmick except if you have someone else in the vehicle, hanging out the windows can make some passengers wary. A gimmic IMO for very experienced off roaders ...

Also the Kakadu has a rear differential lock.

IMO a benefit of the Kakadu is that it can go a fair way off road but without adding anything that screams "I've been thrashed". Then again - maybe that will devalue Kakadu prices!!

After owning the petrol kakadu for 6 mths that is a great summary.

In hindsight I should have got diesel GX or GXL with front and rear diff locks.

Putting in $200 petrol to get 900kms isn't great.

My Kakadu has the front and rear cameras but the side camera only shows the passenger side. The driver's side mirror looks like it has a camera in it but there doesn't seem to be any way to select it when flicking through the camera controls. Not sure if that's normal for right-hand drive models, I just assumed it was.
