I came across this camera on OzBargain. It has all the same mounts as a GoPro and the dimensions are pretty much identical.
What I intend to do with it is to have it as a dashcam and remove it should I need to use it when we're off kayaking or doing adventurous stuff with it strapped to some body parts.
The features that make it a good dashcam is
Unfortunately there is no GPS and therefore no speed recordings. Also there is no wifi/bluetooth connectivity to iOS and Smart devices.
Here is a review on it

Many users have done side-by-side comparisons and at 1/3rd the price, it seems to be really good value. Just search SJ4000 on youtube to see the comparison videos.
Although I do like traditional dashcams which are smaller, I think the likes of the SJ4000 and GoPro will give a better image quality due to the bigger sensor, especially nighttime footage. I've bought a black one so as not to be too obvious when mounted to the front windscreen. I will probably get one for the rear windscreen at this price. The one on the rear can be the one I remove for use outside the car.
In order to install it in the car, I will need a long micro USB cable. I bought this 2m Tikbro branded cable which got good reviews from the OzBargain community

I am currently looking at something like this to convert 12V power to USB/5V behind the car trim

The camera doesn't come with a suction mount but you can get it cheap on ebay. Here is a link to the search result

The features that make it a good dashcam is
- 170deg field of view
- dashcam mode which starts recording automatically when there is power applied to the USB port
- loop recording
- motion detection (useful for carpark prangs when the car is parked)
- time and date stamp
- HDR mode for enhanced nighttime footage
