Yeah mate they are the real deal with made in USA printed on the sidewall and white lettering on one side. I have had a few sets from various resellers over the years and I would doubt a large company like BJ would sell knock offs. Fleabay on the other hand.

I don't think Holidaywagon was saying they sell knock-offs, just parrallel imports made in a different country to those destined for the Oz market.

Let me rephrase I find it strange that BFG Australia & NZ who are the official importer would list them as dealers if they grey import themselves. To get back on track with the thread I am happy with the BFG All Terrains on my 150 and 95. I find them to be a great all rounder, long lasting, tough at all pressures and look great.

Yes they are a good tyre for sure. I've had a couple of sets on my 95 and 120 and not had a puncture. In fact I can go right back to the late 70's when the tyres first came out and a set went on my fathers 1970 55 series wagon.

I am on my 3rd set of BFG T/A KO's on my 185 Hilux Surf and needless to say I really like them.

I now need to replace the original Dunlop Grandtrek 265/60/R18's on my 150 Prado, can anyone confirm if the BFG 265/65/R18 will fit on a stock (no lift) 150 Prado without rubbing...

            Cheers

I'm pretty sure fido666 (Corine) had that size on her Kakadu when they first bought it, stock no lift. Try a pm to her to confirm.

I have them on my VX, I have a 40mm lift but cannot see why the would rub on a standard height.

                Great tyre in my opinion.

Yes that is correct, it had 265/65/R18 BFG AT tyres on it and no lift when we bought it. Don't think there were any rubbing issues, never really gave them a good workout off-road though. I don't know if VicRoads regs have changed since then (late 2012) but back then they were deemed oversized.

                      Hi Folks

I still have my original BFG 275/70/R17, with about 30kkm. There is a fair bit of profile chipping due to the very rocky rutted tracks I've tackled quite a few times but they sure grip well! However.....

After one particular weekend of very rocky rutted track driving, and upon hitting the black top again, I noticed a fair bit of wheel shimmy...OK, so the tyres might move on the bead/rim a bit, given the low pressures (18-20psi) and hard work... so took it to TyrePower for a balance. Nothing wrong they said, but a slight runout on one... unfortunately upon hitting smooth black top (local highway) there was still a lot of wheel shimmy. Back to TP again...

This time they did a different balance (Road Force Balance?) where the actual profile of the tyre is assessed under weight in case there is a delamination or thicker section of tread, etc. Sure enough most of the tyres were just inside tolerance but one was terrible. Their explanation was that a section of the tread had delaminated (there is an inner section, steel banding, then the tread section) where the tread section separates from the steel banding and can cause a slight bluge which feels like a bump. So they can rotate the tyre on the rim to match/compliment the balance of the rim and attempt to even out the balance overall...never quite worked!

I've since heard from others with BFGs that delamination is something that they've all heard about but I seemed to miss it!! Anyone else experience this or no about delamination?

I'm about to put my BFGs onto my 2007 120 and hit the same tracks again in the next few weeks...so will be interesting to see how they perform after being stacked in the backyard for the past 6mths....

ps: Thanks heaps for all the comments over the past year. Much appreciated.

Funny you should mention that, I heard today that the military are having issues with a certain batch of BF's doing exactly that. I may be able to look into it further and find out some more details depending on what they say (military not liking to talk and all). I think the guy said BF are replacing a heap of tyres, I only overheard the conversation today at work.

I am on my third set, and they do heaps of low pressure off road work and often towing as well. Personally I haven't seen or heard of it before.

I've had the squirmy feeling on my previous set after the tread blocks started to lose chunks. Not sure about the delamination. I didn't see the inside of the tyres when they were replaced. When I had the tyres fitted the installer mentioned that they BFG's were hard to balance and that the balance would need to be rechecked after 5000km. Might have been a money grab.

I too have never seen of it before either, but the guy did say one particular batch, had to check the manufacture date and it only effected a certain amount. They are standard fitment to the G-wagon, 285/75R16, all terrain on most, some do get the mudders fitted though. Not dissing the tyre at all, many people I know use them and love them, but like everything, occasionally there are issues.

Just about to retire my second set of BFG AT on my 120 which have done a pretty hard 70,000. Most of this was on the dirt and, apart from a couple of stakings (punctures) they have performed flawlessly. 2 have been running with repair straws for ages. They still run nice and smooth down the freeways. I reckon I could go another 10K but have just put the second set of rims fitted with the BFG M/T2 in preparation for the Tassie GTG. Never heard of BFGs delaminating. The guys at National tyres told me that when they balance the BFGs they find the heaviest side of the tyre and place it on the opposite side to the valve stem which means less weights needed. Seems to work for me.
