Hi all, moving from Tassie to port macquarie in a month or so, so wondering what PP members reside around there, and any tips for exploration.

I have just spent a week in the area. We used to holiday there every year in the '70's. Obviously a lot has changed but I couldn't believe a lot of "bush tracks" are now bitumen.

Guess I'll have to wait and see. Other than a quick fly in during the weekend, i have never been around the area, so will be good to get acquainted with the coast, at least.

Nice area and I believe there are beaches you can still drive on and the fishing is ok, if thats your thing.

Port and the surrounding areas are very busy in holiday time. All the parks and camp grounds are booked out.

          Lucky you Smithy.

I grew up down towards Forster a bit more, very nice part of the world around Port.
Good fishing all round with river, rocks and beaches. Very easy to get a good feed. Good surf as well to if your into that.

Point Plommer, Crescent Head and Hat Head to the north are great coastal camping destinations. Back to the south are a few places like North Haven, Diamond Head are nice and a bit further south (2hrs) then your into places like Pacific Palms, Seal Rocks and Treachery.

If inland touring is your thing then LOTS of terrain to explore up in the hills. Basically in the southern end you will have the Barrington Tops at the head of the Manning Valley, then the Walcha area inland from Port, Oxley Wild Rivers NP, Guy Fawkes, Ebor and Dorrigo are all nice drive.
And that's just what's on your door step. Head a bit further north of Coffs Harbour and places like Red Rock, Station Creek, Wooli and Sandon River are well worth a visit.

On the drive up from Tassie if you have the time it is nice around Batemans Bay/Ulladulla and Bawley Point also.

Happy exploring and good luck with the move.
          Cheers
          Matt

Well, travelled on a day sailing from Tassie yesterday, and staying an hour south of Sydney tonight before arriving with the prado, boat and family in Port Macquarie tomorrow, completing the relocation. Looking forward to exploring over the Easter break.

You will love it Smithy - 120 D4D, My favourite part of the coast, (Hope to retire up that way) We spend a few weeks every year at either Pt Plommer, Crescent or Hat Head, all great spots. The service track from Telegraph Point ferry to Pt Plommer is good fun, and as stated, you can drive all the way to South West Rocks on the Breach if you want. Great surfing great fishing and a very chilled lifestyle...... envious !!

Cheers Rob, ticks a lot of boxes for us, so hopefully a good decision to relocate here. Looking forward to many opportunities this location will offer me and my family. Certainly looking forward to a mild winter...

Uneventful trip so far, so hopeful more of the same tomorrow. Kids had enough of the car after 9 hours of driving and small stops so looking forward to a shorter one tomorrow.

Tassie is a pretty nice place, and was going to take something pretty good to pry me out of there, but I think I may have found it...
