  • Refitted the shovel holder, fitted amtes sand flag and aerial bracket to the foxwing, and some quikfists for the sand flag.
Rearranged the rear draws gear, zip tied the dash mat into position so it doesn't move on me.
Took the TraxRax & Maxtrax off and fitted to the folks 90series, as they heading off before me.
Fitted a few contour camera mounts in different spots.
    Geoff

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

    • LongHorn,

The drawers are fantastic and I can't speak highly enough about the guys at Drifta. They went out of their way for us when we were up there to get them installed. I also got a sliding storage box from them for our Camper Trailer.

      • Curiosity got the better of me and I pulled my EGR valve and intake elbow off for a clean today. Quite a bit of gunk came out, better out than in I suppose. I did consider taking the intake manifold off for a clean but quickly found something else to take my mind off that idea!!

How many k's have you done? And have you thought about fitting a catch can?

          • The vehicle has done 100,000km, we bought it with 90,000km on it. Have been reading the catch can threads and yes, it's something I'll probably do in the near future.

            • In all honesty that isn't too bad for those k's. I've seen hiace vans with less than 30,000 on them in way worse condition (yes that's plural!). Awesome work on doing it yourself though, isn't that black gunk horrible stuff, stains the skin for a day or so. Next is the inlet manifold though, you have only half done the job

Between you and I, I was a diesel mechanic prior to getting into aviation but it's been a while since I was on the tools full time. Cleaning the valve and elbow was pretty straight forward but I wouldn't mind a manual before I tackle the manifold there seems to be a lot going on around the manifold! I managed to stick my fingers down the throat of the manifold and it felt as though there was a lot less 'gunk' on the inside of the manifold. I'm wondering if the heavier particles of gunk stick to the valve and elbow due to the restriction/change in airflow. The downstream end of the manifold might look a bit scary though!

                • Chucked on a set of Roadsafe recovery points.

Got them pretty cheap at $135 from Marks 4WD Adaptors in Melbourne with free shipping.

Check out this thread if you're after some info on these recovery points - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...for-150-Series

                  • Installed an iPad mini 2 (3G model with GPS) under the Climate control module. It sits in front of the stereo fascia. In a Kakadu this isn't too much of an issue as the audio display and controls are mostly on the top touch Nav display. Pics speak a thousand words. The iPad sits in a Spigen armour case and this case is attached to two adjustable plastic hinges. The hinges are then attached to the bottom of the climate control unit. This allows me to tilt up the iPad out of the way to get the CD/DVDs in and out. The hinges have adjustable friction so the iPad doesn't flop about. My phone still connects via Bluetooth for calls.

I currently have the iPad plugged into the USB port behind the transmission lever. Works a treat with the factory stereo as an iPod. I have a right angled black lightning cable to tidy things up a bit at the iPad end and will also hide the cable under the centre console trim back to the USB port. The special cable (had to get it from the US) is going in once I know everything is working correctly. So far so good.

Even though the factory Nav works well, this setup allows me to runs other Navigation software I've had on my phone (for years now). I have Tom Tom, Metroview, motion-x, and Hema. Even though the iPad sits low in the dash it seems to pickup the GPS signals quite easily. I tested this with my iPhone before I pulled the trigger on the iPad.

Other vehicle related things I can run; OBD diagnostics and Bluetooth TPMS (Fobotire).

All up cost was around $650 - iPad was $550 and the case, cable, and hinges $100.

                            • Thanks Joe, yeah I was happy with the result. The work and service from ARB Regency Park here in SA I cant fault.

It's addictive though, I'm trying to decide the next item on my wish list. I'm thinking awning, diff breathers, dual battery and some LED spot lights, all of which I'll have a crack at myself referring to all the literature on here. All in due course.
