I'm still in the "getting to know you" phase with our new 150 having had a 120 for ten years.
The low fuel light on the 120 was uncannily accurate (15 l remaining). Light on - hit trip metre - 100km until empty. I never ran dry but could estimate within a litre or two what she would take to fill based on how many kms travelled passed the fuel light.

Went to servo last night at 130 kms past low fuel light in the 150. Fuel light on at 22 l remaining in 150 so was expecting her to take 144 l. Started getting bloody breather locks at 130 l, dribbled my may to 138.5 l with breather burping and farting and gave up caus place was busy. Returned this morning (after 16km driven) and she took another 12.8 l for a total of 150 l (discount 1.3 l for the 16km driven overnight)

    Lessons learned:
I can't count on the fuel light like I could in the 120.
...or perhaps I CAN count on fuel light like the 120 - for 15 l NOT 22 l.
Breather locks while refuelling the 150 are a PITA.
Procedure may have to be to refuel late at night when its quiet so I don't subject innocent members of the public to a 30min refuel of the 150's recalcitrant fuel system. Previous refuel took 20min to dribble in the final 30 l, and this refuel locked with 20l remaining.

I quietly question to myself the role that breather locks play in these sub 10 l/100km runs that I read about but can never achieve??
What is breather lock? I just drive till DTE is 0 then fill up with 140L everytime, takes about 10mins.

    • I have found the same fuelling characteristic with my 120. So before a long trip, I would fill up 2 days before, drive around for one day, then fill up again and get another 10-15L in.

      • I also have found the same problem when filling up with BP diesel it seems to froth up quite a lot.
You have to wait for it to settle the have another go, usually 3 or 4 more goes to get it full.
If filling with Caltex vortex diesel it clicks off and at most only another couple of litres and it's full.
Most I have put in in one go was 138L but usually around 100 - 120L is the norm.

          • Minecorp Bash Plate

Picked up a Minecorp bash plate and sump guard today and fitted it when I got home. Bit of a mission trying to lift up the guard when your on your back and trying to line up holes in the dark.

Got it for $150 brand new. Nice design and really well made and finished. Good instructions too. 3mm plate with welded side folds for extra stiffness. Bolts are protected from scraping and there are holes to re-attached the bumper trim or to bolt upto an ARB bar.

Bought it directly from the Minecorp factory. They still have a few left and are listing them on Ebay.

I have also got the techstream working and installed a scan guage last week.

That's not much for a 150 l system? On the face of it, it sounds like you are struggling to truly fill your tanks too. Either that or you refuel well before your low fuel light illuminates?

Symptoms for me are that during refuelling with the tank say 30 l from full, the filler pipe fills up and won't take further fuel. After about 15sec I hear a gurgle and simultaneously the fuel in the filler will drop into the tanks and a gush of air and diesel ejects from the breather outlet located just inside the filler pipe. This to me means that back pressure in the breather has held up the diesel in the filler pipe.

I'd love to know if anyone with a V6 has had this experience? I struggle to understand how diesel froth can create the necessary back pressure (unless it condenses back to a liquid within the breather I suppose?)

                  yep,
normally fill before the low fuel light comes on.

                    Playing it safe!
Maybe I should try the Caltex juice? Am sceptical that it will fix my issue - but only one way to find out....

                    Cheers,

                      • I have been told that Caltex Vortex Diesel has an anti foaming agent in it, so you should get more diesel and less foam if this is true.

2 weeks later and still in the work-shop. It needs new front drive shafts. I think the mechanic is going to night school and learning how to operate the machinery necessary to make the new drive shafts from scratch.

                            • Tonight I knocked up a quite strip light for the foxwing. Just essentially a trial run at the moment to see how bright it is. No switch just a lead with a cigarette socket on it that I can plug into the back of the car. I'll try get some shots of it this weekend while I'm away.
