  • TJM currently have a 20% sale on the Snorkel kit. Cost $360 with discount.

I taped the template on and drilled holes with a step drill. Removed the template and drill the 105mm hole with a hole saw I picked up from tradetools for $40.

I didn't use any masking tape or initial reverse cuts. Low speed on the drill and gentle pressure. I used the clutch on the drill so it would slip instead of jarr if it got caught up.

If your in Brisbane I'm happy to lend or sell my 105mm hole saw. Can't really see myself using it again.

Thanks mate, you might have given me the confidence to tackle this. I'm in Canberra but appreciate the offer of the hole saw. I have a mate here who has one that I can borrow.

      • Well it has been 2 weeks in the making, but finally replaced 83 litre tank with a 132 litre tank for my SWB.
TJM Underwood helped me through the process, and after initial discussions regarding the Hayman Reese towbar, the tank that was delivered was 15mm to wide to allow the tow bar to be remounted.
So Steph from TJM sent a bullet back to the manufacturer and to their credit had a new tank ready in under a week.
So now I have the luxury of you bigger brothers in parking out the $$'s when it comes to filling the tank.

Also bought a HEMA7 GPS for $560 while I was there so now need to understand how this works.

        • Hi all,
Fitted an Ironman snorkel the other day.
          Pretty straightforward job really.
Total cost was only $297.00 for the snorkel as I already had a holes saw I could use.
Saved myself about $300 and did a better job than most 4wd workshops would (I've seen some pretty rough work by so called pro's).

          • Well done, and looks good. You have almost "motivated me to have a crack myself now, wheras before I was a bit hesitatnt. A couple of qustions please Jaymboze, if I may.
            1. What did you seal the cut metal with afterwards to prevent rust?
2 When you drilled the ä" pilar upright, is there any risk of hitting an airbag or anything inside the pillar?
            3. When you connect the snorkel to the airbox inside the guard, do you need to use a special sealant to avoid contaminating the MAF sensor? I ghear if you use the incorrect sealant you can muck up the MAF sensor.
            4. Do you seal up the little drain in the bottom of the air filter box after the install or does it remain as is?
            5. Did the ironman instructions provide all you needed to know, or was there something that you would say to someone contemplating the same install?

thanks so much for sharing your images and experience with this install

            • 100k service - fuel filter change

My mechanic sent me a photo of the crud in the bottom of the fuel filter when he changed it out at the 100k service.

Besides the o-ring, not too sure what how or what the other stuff is considering there is also an underbody filter. Just ordered myself a Racor 230R10 filter just to be on the safe side.

              • Got a tow bar fitted from Wynnum! Also picked a slightly longer hitch to be used for the bike rack, so it clears the spare tyre.

There are still a few differences between our Pdoes Matt. . Although in six months, the only difference may be number plates, but only by one number.

                        • Spent all day Saturday fitting a new 2.75" Beaudesert exhaust. The old Lukey straight through had cracked around the outlet so sprung for a new system.
Did it myself in the garage, absolute prick of a job and in hindsight probably we'll worth the couple hunge to have it fitted.
The nuts on the turbo are a mongrel to get at and even harder to get a decent purchase with a socket, ended up using all 3 extensions and a uni joint with a single hex socket, oh and drenching it a few times with WD40.
All the rest came apart fairly easily, and fitting the system back up wasn't to bad except for attaching the supplied clamp to the bell housing ( why this isn't placed on the pipe when being made I don't know and getting the tail pipe over the diff.
Had to reverse the car up onto ramps - sounded pretty ordinary with only the cat pipe on, and then spent a very frustrating hour trying very combination of twisting and shoving to get it over, eventually managed to get it into the sweet spot and got it done - nearly got to the point of giving up and going to an exhaust shop though.
All in all not a job I would recommend for the home handyman and certainly not something you can do without a good toolkit and at least at set of ramps, a hoist would have made it much easier.
As for the result, haven't noticed any increase in noise over the old straight through muffler which is good, maybe the turbo spools up a bit faster, but all in all no real difference over the muffler replacement, looking forward to seeing how it goes on fuel and towing the bike trailer or the caravan though, at the moment looks like it is doing a bit better on fuel.

                            • You wouldn't believe how much of a mongrel it is, when I spoke to them about it they said it is any easy fit, can do it in the floor - they lied.
Another one of those jobs that it is worth paying someone to do.
I notice yours has the Beaudesert brand on the outside, mine is on the inside, must have been a bad day for the laser etcher
