My understanding of slotted rotars is that as you brake the slots pick up and expel the dust generated thus providing a better braking action than non slotted as the dust acts as a lubricant of sorts and restrict the pads ability to grip

Yep they have cooling fins DBA call kangaroo paws or something like that . So what is the Primary cause of brake fade ? Do tell . Happy to be corrected

Wasn't trying to be clever, but as Quadcamv6 said the primary cause is heat so ventilated discs are a good improvement. I had never thought of the slots as helping to get rid of the gas, but it makes sense.

The heat causes all sorts of problems sometimes it causes the brake pad material to break down, it may cause mechanical problems with the braking system and it can also effect the brake fluid. So the key is to prevent heat build up.

Also from what I know of carbon/ceramic discs they actually need heat to work, not sure why but doubt anyone will ever be fitting those to a Prado

No probs, I just got off the phone with another tech at DBA. He confirmed they have had a few customer complaints with the 4WD pads and T2 and that's why they recommend the Bendix HD.

Quick update on the slotted T2 rotors and bendix 4x4 pads . Towed the boat on the weekend and was really happy with stopping performance and pedal feel. It just stops a lot better with theses brakes and I'm happy so far . If I experience any vibration or noise in the future I will let you all know

There were some PPers who thought the Bendix 4wd pads didn't work well when cold so it may be that. I never had a concern.

I've fitted a lot of theses pads to my clients Prados , landcruiser 100 and 200 and have not had anyone complain . Maybe there were a few dud out there ? One of my Clint's has a V8 79 ute loaded to the kilt with tools and tows a a 3 ton trailer with digger gear for mining repairs . Theses pads are the only ones that seem to last the distance in the wet season with all the coal mud ect
. But if I have any issues I will pass it on to you all cheers Pedr

Fitted my new brakes today with the help of a mate. Well he fitted them while I passed him the tools.

In the end I went with RDA slotted rotors and RDA Extreme pads.

Shop around , I think ebay might be the cheapest really , and if you do lots of mud work there is a T3 slotted rotor , but T2s are cheaper and I don't do that much mud driving . Wife didn't know I changed the brakes, and tonight she commented that the car seem to stop better than it did before ... And my wife drives like Miss Daisy !
Hey D4D, just wondering how your RDA setup compared in $$ to Quad's setup ?? - Also, might sound like a bit of a gimpy question, but can the new rotors be fitted straight out of the box?? no machining etc reqd ??

$490 delivered for the 120 RDA rotors & pads from http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/brakes.online0

Fitted straight up with no mods, well other than rebuilding the stupid clips on the handbrake shows.

                            Hi guys
                            new to the forum
i want to upgrade the rotors of my 150 Turbo diesel. But here in Haiti, this is impossible and they don't sell Prado in the USA.
                            Do you think it's possible to switch the actual rotors (dimensions: 338 x 28mm) to 150 V6 or Lexus GX460 (338 x 32mm) ?
Even slotted or and drilled rotors are impossible to find here !
                            thanks for your help

The increased thickness in the rotors will make it difficult to fit the calipers over if they've got new pads fitted.

Also, you'd want to be sure that the rotors were the same dimensions so that the line up properly. Otherwise you might have to offset the caliper mounting position

According to the DBA catalog all 150s run the 32 thick disc at the front:

                                http://www.dba.com.au/wp-content/upl...N2a.pdf#page71

Obviously Australian models, are you sure your discs are 28 thick?
