  • Look what I got! Whilst I'm in the posting mood..

Installed it last week, first run on sunday arvo in Ourimbah state forest. It has transformed my car's capabilities.
No noises manouvering in car parks though it can be felt unlocking on roundabouts but I only notice it because I know it's there and I'm ocd.
I did say a while ago I would never have one in my vehicle: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post249325 but I changed my mind. Besides these softlockers are a world away from the loc-rites our trucks have at work.

    Installed..

    All good

              Thanks!
I installed it over 2 days, pulled the centre out one evening, took it to work the next day and pressed the carrier bearings on. That evening set the backlash and preload and reinstalled it in the diff housing. I guess 4 hours tops..

I'll respond to this post adrian. Just wondering if you would suggest replacing any of the bearings in the carrier while doing the job? I'm thinking about doing the 2x carrier bearings but unsure about whether or not to touch the pinion bearings/seals. Any thoughts? Glad to hear you're liking the locker

I didn't change any of the bearings or seals, you can for peace of mind but if your competent in inspecting them when it's apart it's up to you. Over the years of overhauling truck diffs and gear boxes we never changed bearings ad hoc, only when necessary.
You don't need to touch the pinion depth when fitting a locker as you're reusing the crownwheel and pinion, provided it was set correctly at the factory or if it has been apart another time for whatever reason. Just set the backlash and preload on the carrier bearings.

Excellent. I was going to get a diff specialist to do the install with me removing the carrier. As I'm paying to get the work done I may just get them to change out the carrier bearings while they are stripping the unit. I'll leave the rest though unless they advise differently. Many thanks
