  • Buying a new facelift 150 series

    Hi all,
Looking at going to Toyota tomorrow to buy my first brand new car. But have a couple of questions.
What sort of negotiating power do I have on a new car?
I assume the 2013 plated versions should be a fair bit cheaper?
What should I expect to pay for a 2013/14 Gxl?
Should I use Toyota finance or use esanda (like I currently do)

Hmm thinks thats all I need for now. Cheers!!

Carsales.com.au lists a 2013 GXL diesel auto, with 7kms on the clock, for $58,888 drive away. That would have to be a good starting point for any negotiation?
White auto 150 GXL D4D. Matts, plastics, ARB colour coded winch bar, Warn winch, IPF spots, Safari snorkel, dual batteries (redarc system), 2” OME lift, tow bar, Redarc electric brakes, air compressor, drawers with fridge slide, Engel 40 litre, cargo barrier, breathers, maxtrax, roof bars, sheepskin seat covers, TJM side steps/sliders and Toyo Open Country II tyres.

You have more power than you think, and it will vary between dealerships / stock levels / where they are at with sales targets.

I bought my first new car in late July.. Altitude Prado with towbar and bonnet protector for 66500.

When I got mine, my local dealer would not budge below 70k. Several other dealers were the same.. I rang around and ended up flying to pick mine up the price was just to much under what I could get local. Ring and visit lots of dealers and get a feel for the ones that really want to sell.

I would expect that if you get an Auto Diesel GXL with a towbar, mats, bonnet and headlight protectors and you pay around $59k on road you have bought well.

I think (and from what I have seen) at the moment, if you pay more than $60k you have paid too much, especially if it is plated 2013. I paid $60,490 in 2012 with all of the above + Toyota window tinting and rubber cargo liner - not financed. A mate of mine picked up a 2013 GXL Diesel 2 weeks ago (Graphite) with everything except the cargo liner and he paid $58,990 Driveaway and his was leased, however not with Toyota.

Like has been mentioned, ring a few and play them off against each other, but I think $59 is your current benchmark.

Is that for an auto or manual, the auto is 3K more RRP than a manual.

Think about what extras you want and do you want the dealer to provide these such as front tinted windows (tint an uv) and rear (uv only), extended 3 year factory warranty and the others listed in the earlier posts.

My view is obtain the total price with all your extras and on road cost and then start negotiating. They will try to negotiate the base price (maybe with a few throw ins) and then add the extras and negotiate each of these separately.

Hi all, my first post. Been looking to buy a d4d prado. Can't afford the potential maintenance cost with the seemingly unavoidable injector problems.
Think I'll just keep the corolla.

A+B not sure if that was a serious post or not. Injectors are consumables. The injectors on any common rail diesel will be more expensive than an old school engine. From new you should get an easy 120,000 before any concerns especially if you are diligent with maintenance. There are few if any 'injector problems' being reported with the 150. If this still scares you and you want a Prado then buy the petrol. It's a good unit too, just underprivileged when it comes to torque.

Otherwise enjoy your awe inspiring Corolla.
