A mate has a 2009 GXL 150 series diesel. He whacked his drivers mirror against his carport support pillar. Appears to have busted some component inside the mirror for when he starts the car the mirror folds completely forwards against the door pillar. He has to wind it down and pull it back. Now, we've gone on TOYODIY and entered the VIN number but it brings up the VX parts with the fancy mirrors. Searching will not show the standard GXL mirrors so we can't even look at the relevant parts list in case we need new bits. The local Toyota dealer was only interested in taking "over $700" for new parts. Any ideas? Appreciated.

Same problem here. Anyone been able to fix their mirror unit instead of replacing it?
In the meantime you can disable the folding function by popping off the back of the mirror and removing the orange plug into the motor. This will still allow you to adjust the mirror glass from the cabin, and keep the indicator working, but stop the folding function from turning the whole mirror unit around to the A-pillar.
