Has Toyota recently increased the price of genuine parts?

I got an air filter yesterday, part 1780130080. Was charged $60.

My last Toyota service invoice from 6 months ago had it listed for $43.

Because people are not buying as many cars now they have to get their money somehow. Just checked my filter change at 90,000km service and they charged me $58.85 back in March. They also slugged me $72.24 for that piddly aircon filter.

Rang Toyota today to get a price on air filter for the V6, $83.00 cough cough. I can get cheaper then this from my mate who works there but probably around $20 cheaper (gives me cost price), thought I'll get one next week, Scrolling through Ebay come across air filter for V6, new genuine Toyota. I have a mate with a BT50. He buys his oils and filters from Supercheap and gets the local Mazda dealer to do his servicing using the cheaper parts. They recommend fully synthetic oil but he supplies Castrol general purpose diesel type stuff from Supercheap at less than half price and they are happy to use it. But he got caught out last week when they told him he needs brake pads and he reckons nobody makes a replacement other than OEM. I'd like to try that with Toyota.

The air filter, underbonnet fuel filter and oil filters (bulk buy from ebay) are the only genuine filters I'll be using. If I could get an aftermarket air cleaner with the precleaner, I'd change over however haven't found one locally let. There's a guy in NSW that sells WIX filter with the precleaner for around $35 however can't find a supplier in Brisbane. I'm not game to try aftermarket underbonnet fuel filters.

I'll be going Wesfil for the between tank, cabin filters and emergency spare air filter while on road trips.

I just got a pile of stuff from Amayama including a main fuel filter (under bonnet) for$45 - dealer here slugged me $107 last year during engine rebuild, water pump $171, wing mirror (complete) $209, timing belt $43, tensioner $56, pulley $30. I got OEM oil filters from NZ for around $15 each ($22 here). There's obviously a huge mark-up here in Oz.

RyCO can make filters as good as anyone, they have been around or a long time. At Repco you should be able to haggle a lot off the retail price.

On a side note. I just got fuel filter 2339030180 supplied but, sitting in my engine bay as fitted by Toyota after my engine rebuild is part number 2339030350. Outwardly it looks exactly the same. Don't forget to add GST to your parts from Amayama.

Interesting re the fuel filter part number. Wonder what the difference is. The new one may be a better element.

The between tank filter on the 150 series part number is: 23300-30410 where at the 120 series is 23300-30310.
