Lights under side steps

Hi guys

Wanted to know does the gxl 150 prado have the same wiring options as the kakadu?

Kakadu has lights under the side steps when opening vehicle or walking past with key it lights up.

Just wondering if its possible with the gxl?

The wiring loom is already there. You could get some waterproof LED strips off ebay and wire it in.

I noticed the wiring there and wondered whether it was active. Anyone done it? Any photos of the Kakadu originals?

I am sure someone did this some time ago, I recall seeing the photos but cant recall who it was. If I remember I'll search out the thread.

Had a brain wave and remembered the member, although it was actually a VX and the lights were standard

I'm gonna have a crack at it lol this weekend, the interior of my car is all smd's rear number plate light smd front hids.
Just want underbody now.

Got a couple of shots here of under my VX. Its a little hard to get a clear shot under there.

Basically one light front and rear level about with the front of the seat. Cable encased in split ducting, join in centre and connect via plug shown and up through grommet under drivers seat. Hope that helps

Interesting, I've seen that plug under my GXL and based on the look of it, thought it was for the side airbags or something....although it seemed a bit 'loose' for something like airbags. Will have to have another look.

Are the lights under the Kakadu side steps inbuilt or detachable? I tried working it out from Ian's VX pic but can't quite tell. The cover looks removable, just not sure about the rest. I don't have the car here for a couple of days so can't check. Asking because I want to know if it's possible to use a GXL step as a replacement or if you have to use a Kakadu/VX specific part.

Lights under side steps

I dropped the light out to hopefully give a better idea. Added 4 more photos to album. The mount bracket is pretty flimsy in reality and is held by 3 rivets to the top of the step. I suspect first slide over anything will be goodbye lights.

What activates these lights? I can see the same plug on my GX and was thinking I could drop a small led strip in there under the sliders on each side.

Would they operate just like that or is there more work involved in getting it going?

It is connected to your interior lights when you open the door or unlock them.
