Now I don't know what the execs are being paid, but I guarantee you its way more than the guy on the factory floor. When they make a stuff up like continuing to build cars that people don't want; and when it doesn't work out the poor blue collar worker not only gets the short end of the stick, it also seems that they are now getting blamed for the problems of Holden. In the mean time the execs will award them selves a multi million dollar bonus for doing such a great job and go and buy another yacht to water ski behind.

    Cheers Andrew
    Stop talking nonsense AJ.

No one needs two yachts. One is plenty, but one does need a ski boat if one partakes of such crass activities.

I reckon AJ is on the money.

The long term future has been a fantasy for some time. Maybe the unions brought it on by a few weeks or months, but in a market based economy there is no hope of selling product for a profit that almost no-one wants. That only works in two situations AFAIK: Monopoly and the Commo's.

So cars that no one wants to buy make up 3 of the top 10 sales for this and many previous months?

Try fitting 5 adults in a Golf, don't get me wrong they are a great car, but I regularly have others in my Falcon, it gets 9.5lts/100 according to the trip computer, this includes town and motorway driving. Dearest serice so far (has done 90000ks) was $620.00 this included and extremely expensive battery at $200.00 from Ford. Rear wheel drive, handles well for it's size, goes well, comfortable. Mine is a G6E so premium sound system, leather all the bells and whistles and I purchased it new for $35000.00.

Try getting a Eurpoean or Japanese car with the same features for that money, Falcons and Commodores will be sorely missed when they go.

Obviously not "no one" but not nearly enough. I recall back in the day when Falcons and Commodores (or Kingswoods) were top of the pops. Commodore Sales are around half that of the Corolla, Mazda 3 and Hilux. If we were making those cars now things might be different, but we aren't and numbers are everything when it comes to manufacturing.

I recall when I was welding up cars for a living and I worked on pre production testing and development for a new model that the bracket that held the flexible brake line to the chassis cost 100 grand to get it correct, that's a tine bracket about the size of a golf ball that would cost a few cents to produce once sorted. Obviously the more vehicles you can spread that cost out over the cheaper they are to make.

If we were selling as many Commodores as Corollas then we wouldn't be having this discussion.

            Cheers Andrew

Can you split the government sales out of that mjr? They have always supported the locals over the imports.

Three months does not tell the story of the trend for this year or previous years. Are you saying that there has been a complete about face in the buying public?

I suspect you're just spinning the bad news to suit your opinion, eg:

Despite large cars being down almost 17 per cent on last year, November saw 5544 vehicles in the segment sold, delivering sales of 3097 for the Holden Commodore and 1227 for the Ford Falcon – both up on November 2012 figures.

              [..]

              Top 10 Best-selling Vehicles – 2013 to date

              Toyota Corolla – 39,794

              Toyota HiLux –36,457
              Hyundai i30 – 28,035
              Holden Commodore – 25,218
              Holden Cruze – 22,959

Spot on AJ120, wages that are in excess of the leader of the country mean that most big company execs wouldn't know what doing it hard was! With those sort of wages should come heaps of responsibility but it doesn't seem to work that way, as you say their poor decisions about what vehicles to build are now reaping no benefits what so ever, but why would they worry? They will still get their payouts albeit a much larger amount.
                  Common sense isn't that common.....

with that in mind clearly the biggest issue is that the commodore/falcon was never exported... which would have got the numbers manufactured up, and the costs down (labour excluded)

so why were they never exported, why has holden only now had a shot at sending it to the US when they are on the edge of the end?

the cars were good enough to compete with america in quality compared to price...

No idea I looked at the magazine last night and just noted where the cars were positioned.

Back then Andrew we never had so much choice and Falcons/Commodores were cheaper than most imports. Nobody would be seen dead in a Honda or a Nissan. We all wanted a big 6 or V8, not some gutless Jap four pot. Technology changed that and the imports generally got cheaper and they also got more power. Over the following years Holden and Ford have struggled to keep up with the necessary technology. Have a look, even taxi drivers stay away from the bigger cars.
