  • Fuel Pump Suction Control Valve

Has anyone had any issues with their suction control valves located on the back of the fuel pump? I was reading about these things on a chip manufacturers website. Apparantly they wear out and the ECU dosen't compensate for wear. I tried re-initialising mine last night and it worked as I noticed at idle the fuel rail pressure was sitting below the target pressure, going up to target pressure and dropping back down. The rail pressure wasn't staying constant. The car was much more responsive to drive this morning and afternoon.

The valves cost less than $200. Can they be replaced with the pump on the vehicle or does the pump have to be removed?

On my vehicle you could replace the SCVs without removing the pump. And yes, they're known for being one of the sensitive parts of the fueling system that are easily clogged. If I recall correctly, I read some posts in this forum saying that Toyota originally tried to not sell replacement valves alone - you had to buy the whole pump. They seem to have gotten over that now.

Can this be checked via Techstream? If so how & If not how else can it be checked?

      Cheers,
      Sean.

          Thanks Mick,

Looks pretty straight forward, which is great. Just wondering how to check them?

          Cheers,
          Sean.

            Check this one Sean,

Basically you check it by how much the rail pressure 'bounces'

I couldn't screen shot the TechStream so had to take a pic on the phone. It seems my fuel pressure is a bit all over the place.
Test completed at idle & you can see coolant temps etc.

If you guys could let me know what you think.

                      Cheers,
                      Sean.

Its probably boarder-line. Its around 750-800 PSI min to max based on the above - however normally you would see a positive spike (far less often than it sits below the target, as opposed to over it) buts within the region of starting to give some issues. Toyota state 'acceptable' as between 30,000-40,000 (window a bit wide) which your sitting on anyway.

                            Thanks Matt,

I'll add it to the list for May/June when I get the injectors done.

The part number from Pradopoint was 04226-30020, but when I gave Toyota Spare Parts the VIN they said the part number should be 04226-30010. So must be a small change there somewhere??

Toyota want to charge a small fortune of $487 - $535, so I'll see what Amayama come up with.

What is the other part in the Video posted by Ozioffroad? Is it a fuel Temp Sensor? Should this also be replaced? Or are there 2 SCV's like the RAV 4?

                            Cheers,
                            Sean.

                              Hi Mick,

Having checked the location of mine and the fact only two hex screws secure it, is it really as easy to change these over as it seems?
