When the 120 series was released there were 3 x options for wheels: skinny steel rims on the GX (no fender flares), wider steel wheels on GX upgrade model and GXL with fender flares and wide alloy rims on GXL and upper models. The 150 series came out with 2 styles of alloy wheels - one for GX and GXL and the other for the Kakadu. So the below photo is of a WA Government department 150 sporting 6 x 120 GX wide steelies shod with 245/70R17 tyres. Somewhere in Perth there's a stockpile of alloy rims for 150s. The government cars get fitted out at JAD enterprises in Malaga.

It's my understanding that 150 GX and GXL wheels are not the same?
150 GX alloys are 17 x 6.5 - 150 GXL alloys are 17 x 7.5White auto 150 GXL D4D. 245/70R17 is the standard size tire for a 150 GX, so why on earth would they change the rims for steel ones? Maybe someone in the WA government dept is scared of alloy rims and has the reasoning that it's easier to repair a bent steel rim than a cracked alloy rim out in the scrub?
GX alloys are pretty much useless to anyone as they are 17x6.5'' anyway.

I'd run GX wheels on my trailer. 245/70s probably close enough match to the 275s on the Prado if I needed an emergency spare. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic
