No probs KIMBO. Hope they do as good a job as well. Forgot to mention the only thing I could pick was the reversing camera cable fed under the bar... Well picked up the car today, out with the old
Was quite surprised to see not much of the original
In with the new - the Reece does seem to instal lower than the original
After seeing David picture - went down to Toyota and picked up a 150 cover kit (part # PZQ6460160RC) for $18.41 to finish on the weekend
Just noticed cable running under the bar - got to get that adjusted

Heh heh - I've already got 2'' - the plugs OK Still flush with the top of bumper ( 3rd photo not good but is level and more secure than it was before ) so that hasn't moved down

WHY do they always put the plug UNDER the bar????? good for ripping off. It would be very easy to fit 100mm higher, in the bumper, there is a hole through the rear chassis for the wires and plug body.Comment

Finally had mine checked today after having the letter for several months. They changed the bolts.Comment

Just had mine "checked" after towing 2 1/2 tonne van over 10 years and 100,000k's + with Hayman Reese Hitch and all "ok".
Just replaced the van with a new one and no hitch required with the new style anti sway hitch from Alco. Was apprehensive at first without the Hayman hitch but the new van tows better than the old one with hitch, so the development has come a long way over the past 10 years.JohnComment

Can I go to any toyota dealership and get this checked out ?
The vehicle was bought 2nd hand the towbar came with it.Comment

We just picked up our 06 GXL Prado second hand which is fitted with a genuine Toyota bar. I've rang the local dealer and they confirmed that our bar has been checked and rebolted or whatever, and the stickers were applied. For what they are worth! I asked about swapping my HR WDH for the Toyota one and was told that couldn't happen, given the recall has been done already. So now I seem to have one of three options :
1. Buy a Toyota WDH which isn't height adjustable and use it in a bar that appears to be held on with Bondall. ($400)
2. Keep the Toyota bar and use my WDH anyway. We tow a 16' expanda at about 180kg ball, 1800kg all up, so might not even need it?
3. Put a HR Bar on and use my WDH, leaving a great big hole in the bumper (aside from using the 150 cover - great idea though!). Apparently HR used to have a bar that still required a bumper cut but developed a new one that is completely under the bumper -sadly! ($600)
Sigh. I was so happy to get into a Prado before I stumbled on all this. Any advise? Anyone towing an Expanda without a WDH? Are the Toyota ones THAT bad?Comment

Get a HR towbar. I would. Especially the one that is bolted to the chassis rails so then there are 3 bolt on points.Comment
