Electrical things going wrong is what I prefer lol... I'm an auto accessories fitter, not a mechanic. Hehe.

I would forget the thermo fan set up, they/it won't have the velocity that big mother fan can pull through. Some one else tried this a few years ago and went back to the viscous coupling (as is) he only changed it cause he didn't like the roaring of the fan, hello if it's roaring its doing its job and pulling the required air through..... Up to you but I would be leaving it alone, also one less electrical thing to go wrong..... Cheers Steve

I second that ! Been there done that , years ago it was a 2.0L petrol 4wd hilux I fitted a Davies Craig fan inside the shroud, fitted perfect the fan was huge but overheated in average 4wding

Well, something always has to happen. Spent all that time cleaning and blowing the crap out of the radiator... overtorqued the last bolt putting it in and crack the top tank.

Since I need the car tomorrow without a doubt I will rapidfix the crack back together, not quite fill the radiator and I won't tighten the cap all the way down.

What are peoples opinions on replacement radiators? Who makes a good one? Don't need anything better than stock.

Shit you got all that back together tonight ready to go for the morning except the incident with the radiator ??? You should of been a bloody mechanic. I don't think most workshops would have got that far, I'm sure of it. Can't help with your radiator as I don't know of anyone down your way..... What a bummer, oh well at least now once you get it replaced you know it will new along with the other parts lol.... Cheers have a good night......Steve

Thanks mate. Just took the car for a test drive. I was able to use the marvelous RapidFix on the radiator and it held pressure so I'm happy to drive it tomorrow. I'll just throw a couple of gallons in jugs on the floor to be sure.

So... What an interesting experience. I didn't mention this earlier because I wasn't completely sure. But I noticed last night when I removed the top timing cover and aligned up the cams that the crank was showing about 30degrees advanced!

Not sure if its been jumping teeth or poor installation. But when I fitted this one I made sure everything lined up sweetly.

So before leaving the driveway, these are the things I noticed straightaway. First, it idled smoother. Second it was mechanically quieter. Not the belts being quoted but the whole motor. Third, a quick peek at the vac gauge inside said I was idling at 23in.hg. its never done that before at all.

First thing I noticed when reversing out of driveway was that when I gave it the usual jab of the throttle... I nearly had to spit out chunks of the steering wheel... Never done that before either.

I've mentioned in the past that there is a hill I have to climb on my way out of town. Usually when I turn onto the road and hit the hill, I'm doing 30 at the bottom and if I'm lucky...55 at the top. To make matters worse, my foot is all the way down to get that 55. Tonight at almost full throttle I just reached the limit at the top which is 80.

Problem solved.

As for radiators I recommend Denso for OEM quality at an affordable price. There are cheaper options of course.

Thanks Steve. Had a few hours now sleep now... Off to work I go! Haha. Yeah I was doing some cheering. Even picked up my daughter from the train station in it during the test drive. She climbed in and I punched it outnof the station. Woah was the expression. Its never done that before!

I've done heaps of these belts before and actually planning on doing mine soon even though there is a sticker saying it was done 5k ago i don't trust any mechanic.

The trick for getting the tensioner bolts without removing the a/c is using a swivel socket and extension. Most of my tools at work are snap on and i have a 12mm magnetic swivel socket for this exact job!

I use 1/4 drive as i have a fairly long ratchet so has plenty enough to crack the bolts!

Very interesting read everything you went through to find the fault. My car is having the same problem and i'm about to replace MAF Sensor, Plugs, Filters, TIming Belt and rip out power valve from exhaust.

Actually mine goes off the line very very well but gets sluggish around 2-3000rpm so i'm think maf sensor fault but just want to replace everything so i have a good starting point for the car.

Hey Walky, in another thread I mentioned i also had the injectors cleaned and rebuilt.

That was the final piece of the puzzle and the car has even more grunt now and better fuel economy.

More often then not now I don't even bother with the water injection refills.
