Will have my budget camper in tow. Serves us well.

Out of curiosity, now that it seems some of you guys are leaving your campers at Talbotville in advance, what would your other halfs say about having a another camper dropped off and left packed up? Would they mind keeping an eye on it? I'm keen to do the backcountry trip on the transit leg. The boys sleep in swags anyway, so it's really just an extra swag that I would be bringing for the nights at mansfield, and the night out bush?

Actually, looking at the map again, it seems a long way out of the way when coming from SA, unless there's a shortcut through the high country at all? Google maps is telling me 6hrs from mansfield to Talbotville!

I don't think the girls would mind if you leave it at Talbotville , I will be heading up there on Sunday and will be crossing over to Mansfeild with everyone else on Tuesday morning some time .

They will look after it no worries, but yes it's a long way over & back.
250k ish up north fast route Talbotville back to Mansfield likely 4+ hrs driving.
If you love driving it could be worth the effort.
I'm only doing it because I have to drag my trailer up full of goodies, & need them in Talbotville, I might be leading 2 day drive depending if many people go that way.
Otherwise any of the other options are all good.

Ok. I was thinking 2 hours or so was doable. I think 4+ is stretching it. The offroad trailer route will suit me then.

The committee is copping a bit of flack for making the trailer route to easy, really, come on guys we are talking mountains here. We are not going to cop flack for destroying your new tyres, nor do we wish to help you out of your wreck. There are some trailer options we could do in the dry but how do we know if it will be dry in advance when it rains up there somewhere almost every day of the year. What we can say is after a big drive on Wednesday (if you pick the long option) and four hours on the track on Thursday morning you will not mind making some progress with your new friends towards getting to our base camp for the next week. Then with the trailers out of the way 'let the driving begin'. The drive till you drop guys will not be disappointed and neither will the families looking for shorter drives and more time in camp. Nobody will be able to say "we should have got more driving in" unless you have been in bed with the flue. Happy take criticism after the GTG about the drives we put on but how about sampling first.

I trust you've picked the route you have for a reason. It's your GTG and you know the area best. Lead the way boss.

Now, I think I read something about water crossings on the trailer route. What is the depth/difficulty of these? My trailer is not 100% waterproof. I suspect momentum will keep the water at bay but I don't wish to sleep in a wet tent either...

                                Exactly! & thank you!

The crossings do vary, generally you won't have to worry about anything like that getting wet.
The biggest variable us how much rain we get? If any? Atm they are very low!
Mostly well used & smooth so you shouldnt be getting hung up & stop etc.
