  • Working eBay Techstream

I noted somebody suggested purchasing a Techstream cable from eBay to enable you to perform your own cold start test. Who has a recommendation on one that actually works with the Prado? How did you get it to work?

Not personally, but its raised an eyebrow.. Not only for the price, but convenience of not having to drop it off at a workshop the night before to check injector values.

Correct, I want it for cold start injector values also. I know it has to run on an XP 32 bit laptop which I have, however the eBay seller said it wouldn't work with a D4D prado hence my question.

I've just installed techstream on my laptop and it runs fine on 32bit Win7 so long as you set the .exe to XP3 compatibility first. Works great on my 1KZ-TE with M-OBD

Not bad for $28 posted http://tinyurl.com/l9276l6

            Gents,

A quick question - I've now got a techstream and it's connecting OK to the Prado.

My main motive for buying a techstream was to check the injector feedback (cold start).
Is there a procedure for doing this correctly? I connected the USB connector to the ODB connector, turned the ignition on (engine off) and was able to run a test on the engine and get the feedback values which surprised me a little since I thought maybe the engine had to run.

Should I start the engine, and run the test as soon as its started?

Did you use Europe as the country when you set it up?

Thanks D4D, haven't had a chance to play with it further...
I had a little installation video with mine which i followed, and yep I selected Europe. What you need to do is connect the cable to the ODB connector with at least the ignition on and THEN start the program up... it should automatically detect the 1KD, and all you need to do is select the year range for your 1KD.
I forgot it only ran XP, and tried to install on a Win7 64bit and techstream installed OK, but the drivers for the USB cable didn't... ended up using XP on a virtual machine (virtual box) or my work laptop and had no issues.
Even with the ignition on, it was able to see the injector feedback... which surprised me. Either way this showed two injectors were out, (-3.5 and +3.8 I think) so Im loooking at getting some replacements.

Thanks switched, I installed mine on Win 7 32 bit (old laptop I had laying around), running it in XP SP3 mode and it seems to be ok.

I'll ask a mate of mine who should know the cold start procedure.

Thanks to 0xyg3n for the info on how to conduct the cold start test.

                    1. with laptop on connect odb cable to Prado
                    2. turn ignition on
                    3. run Techstream
                    4. select 'connect to vehicle' (should auto detect)
                    5. follow prompts to ecu 'data list'
                    6. start vehicle, watch injection feedback values at idle
                    7. at 60 seconds record value
                    8. go for a 10 minute drive to warm up
                    9. check values again at idle
                    10. job done

                    Here are my results

                    Cold

                    Warm

D4D (and oxygen) thanks for the procedure, I'll get cracking with this tomorrow morning. Are these your original injectors that you've tested, how many K's are on them?

Thanks Jase, just bought one! I'll see how I go getting it to work. Still using XP on my laptop so should be no worries there.
