  • Hi Everyone
OK, need some help. I tried to connect to my car on the weekend but got a registration details window - it needs a "new key". Do I have to register with Techstream? If yes, what is the procedure?

    Any suggestions appreciated

      • Hi Andyfive
I purchased the new version 9 "kit" from ebay that Mozz saw and mentioned on this thread. It was supposed to be compatible with Windows 7 32 and 64 bit operating systems.
After a lot of searching, I found the 9 page Installation Guide.
Step 1 was to run the Techstream application - seemed to work OK
Step 2 was to run the MVCI driver - I got a message indicating "incomplete install"
Step 3 would be to run the registration key process - I tried to run anyway but double clicking on the "key" application nothing happened.

Seeing the extensive discussion on problems with Win 7, I grabbed an old XP machine and tried the same 3 steps. this time the "setup/register" option is "greyed out" so I can't even attempt that option.

Yes the MCVI driver self installation scripts are not compatible with windows 7 64 bit. Still seems to be the case with this supposed "compatible" cable.
The actual drivers however do work on 64 bit. There are ways to get around the auto installation if you look through the various links to other forums posted earlier.

          • Has anyone worked out if it's possible to disable the open door chime via the techstream software? I'm using v9.30.002 and have found just about every option except that one!

              • Just got my techstream up and running, a bit of hit and miss. Ignition on, cable plugged in, then start up techstream . All values show up but injector values show 0.0.
Start motor injector values show up .Is this normal.
Are cold start values just that ,Cold motor at idle ?

                  • I noticed after starting the with laptop and cable connected it took 5-10 seconds for the injector values to appear.

                    Some appeared quickly before others.....

Other times I have started the software and connected just after starting due to software crash

Also, make sure you have the manufacture date correct - it works on YYMM - YYMM if I recall correctly. Mines an 09 so its first in the list.

                    • Pretty sure my 120 shows values appearing but they only start moving once the engine is started

I think the first set of values you see are the values stored in the ECM from previous operation. Once you start the car the live values appear as the ECM communicates with all the various doo dahs and thingameebobs around the car.

Cold start is motor at idle after start. no throttle / no idle up - engine needs to be completely cold hence you have to leave the car at the dealers so they can leave it overnight.
Warm is after the engine has run to operating temp.

That's what I was after and suspected. My son inlaws prado 120 and hilux of the same vintage seemed to store the values, were as my 150 showed zero.
                        Thanks for clearing that up.

Here is the key programming document with Techstream found on slideshare

                            1. Turn vehicle ignition switch to ON position with engine off.
                            2. Click “Connect to vehicle” and wait a few seconds until the system will pops out the connection are well built note.
                            3. Select “System selection menu”>> “Main Body” >> “Utility” >> “Wireless code registration”, then accept the "Wireless Code Registration Wizard" prompt.
                            4. Follow the screen prompts until the process complete. Click “Next” to add another key or “Exit” to finish. 6) Then move to program the immobilizer chip to enable to start the engine. Select “System selection menu” >> “Immobiliser”>> “Immobiliser Live”>> “Utility”>> “Wireless code registration”
                            5. Accept another wizard to turn the ignition switch off. Back on and click “Next”.
                            6. Turn it back off and remove the master key. Insert the new flip key without turning it. Click “Next”. The security light start illuminating after the timer on the screen counted down from about 90 minutes while ECU learned the new key code.
When the timer on the screen counts down to 0, the system prompts “Programming complete” message. Click “Next” to program another key or “Exit” to finish.
                            7. Start the engine, lock the door and test the new keys.

but i am not sure how it works

                            • Mate of mine just bought a '64 bit supported new firmware version'. When it arrives I'll know whether it now works with 64 bit or not, stay tuned....

Re how to get it connected, see below from my post on the first page...

                              1. with laptop on connect odb cable to Prado
                              2. turn ignition on
                              3. run Techstream
                              4. select 'connect to vehicle' (should auto detect)
                              5. follow prompts to ecu 'data list'
                              6. start vehicle, watch injection feedback values at idle
                              7. at 60 seconds record value
                              8. go for a 10 minute drive to warm up
                              9. check values again at idle
                              10. job done
