The Summit Mudhog is also a cheap mud terrain at $215 fitted and balanced each. I've got a pair on the front and they're great. Can't fault them. LT and 3 ply. They're also quiet as a mouse on the road unlike the Goodyear Duratracs I had which hummed quite loudly at 60km/h or over.
I'm running Federal Couragia MT's on my rig, just did 6500klms up the Cape and back. We had 3 vehicles running them on the trip and they all went well. I got mine well priced through a mate but I have seen them for around $250 fitted for the 265/70/17.
I'll never pay over over $300 for a tyre again that's for sure. Those days are long gone. Too much of a rip-off. The Duratracs jumped from $320 to $440 a tyre within a 2 year period when I was due for new tyres on the front (still got them on the back). I would've bought them again if they were up to $350 each max. But since they were too dear I decided to give them a miss and looked elsewhere. My experience with using a $200 tyre is a good one and they've been well tested in the time I've had them. These cheaper tyres actually required less balancing weights than the tyres worth twice as much. I only buy muddies too as I do a bit of 4wding and I found all-terrains pretty ordinary in damp conditions off-road and on steepish wet grass when you need the highest amount of traction. You have much more control over where the car goes when doing a steepish decline on a damp track with the muddies on which does your heart more favours. Plus mud terrain tyres look awesome and are the ultimate compliment to the looks of a fourby
Honestly I have found my Dura Tracs to be quiet........no noisier than the geolanders they replaced..............I was used of the god awfull noise my Dick Cepek FC2's made though.........

Really? Mine were noisy as. I didn't mind so much at the time and actually didn't mind it, but now that I've got quiet tyres I'm glad the noise is gone. Even with the windows up you'd hear them humming away. Whenever I carried passengers who hadn't been in the car before, they kept asking if that was my diff making that noise haha. When driving up in the cape on the narrow tracks of the OTT with the tyres down to 18 psi, it sounded like there was always a jet overhead high in the sky. It took us a while to realise it was actually the tyres making the noise. The Duratracs were a great performing tyre though and I would've gotten them again for sure, but unfortunately due to their popularity they had priced themselves out of gaining my interest again.
