Filthy Fuel Filters d4d

Changed over both fuel filters on the weekend.

Inline between tank filter was a pain to change with limited space and remember... not to lay under the filter when changing unless you want a diesel shower.
Engine bay filter was on so tight i need a filter strap to remove it. shouldnt it be hand tight only.

Any way curiosity go the better of me so opened them up with a grinder. Yes i was prepared for a posible fire!

I unrolled the inline filter which was so blocked it was black like a used oil filter.
The engine bay filter was only half as bad. I was suprised at how many metres of filter material they squeeze in

Car, 152K has always been serviced by toyota so "hasnt" been neglected. has also had their "fuel treatments" etc added
Seems to be quieter and smoother now with clean filters

Hi White Lightening;
We've found the same thing with vehicles undergoing injector changes. Sometimes, whilst it (our injectors) removes the knock, it wont quite the rattle, but 9/10 times we change all the filters, the problem then goes away...

REGARDLESS of what Toyota states, we've found the best results are to change the filters - they are not lifetime use...

Matt, that is interesting about filters possibly affecting the rattle. Last winter I noticed that the rattle on my 150 was very audible whilst driving with the engine cold until it warmed up a bit. I changed the under bonnet filter at 40k a few months back (done 50k now) and I will swear that the engine is much much quiter this winter. Very interesting........
