Well I thought it was finally time to get up a build thread. Picked up my 09/12 in october last year.
First mod on the day of pick up was a decent set of tyres. After plenty of reading on here I went with a set of Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 ribs in LT265/70/16bigger. I would have loved to have gone a 275 but they only do 285 and all my research showed that it wouldn't fit. Next on the list was a towbar. I decided to go with a Hayman Reese over the standard towbar to avoid cutting the rear bumper. I installed this myself with alot of very helpful info off here in relation to removing third row seats etc.
Next up was tinting the front windows to match the privacy glass on the rear I also had clear UV film put over the privacy glass to give the kids some UV protection whilst travelling.
I then had to decide between a TJM or ARB bar. Ended up deciding on an ARB deluxe winch bar which I had a go at installing myself aswell. I found it pretty straight forward job. Cutting a near new bumper with my jigsaw was a bit nerve wracking but as they say you have to break eggs to make an omelette. Only problem with the ARB bar I had was a problem with the paint, poor colour match and it was very soft and started to peel badly soon after fitment. Rockhampton ARB ultimately replaced the bar with a complete new one after much 'negotiating' on what would make me happy.
Next up was a dual battery install. I chose to go with a Redarc BCDC1240 DC-DC charger with a Ritar 100Ah battery. I chose to go with an AGM auxiliary as I have an AGM in my camper and didn't want to mix battery types as I parrallel them up when towing and charge both off the BCDC1240. I also ran a feed into the rear compartment to a fused distribution block to run a couple of 12V outlets for fridge etc. Also ran an anderson plug to the rear to charge the forementioned camper battery.
I have just recently installed an OME lift which I am initially pretty impressed with. I procrastinated over which kit to go with for a long time as I was really concerned about keeping good ride and handling, so far so good but have only done <50kms with it in. Very keen to see how it will perform offroad and when towing my Jayco. I also installed a set of coilrite airbags aswell when the lift went in.
That’s it for now, next up will be some driving lights, possibly followed by drawers and cargo barrier later in the year.
Cheers
Brad
