I notice today that there is a feature on your trailer in the latest Camping trailer Australia magazine. Looks good only spotted it as I noticed the Prado in the picture, haven't read it yet. All looks good, from one GX owner to another.

Bought some 6mm thick insertion rubber and cut it to size for under the stone guard just to stop sand and rocks. Figured I may as well make them as big as possible as I couldn't find anything suitable on the market that wasn't a million dollars!
Had a spare couple of hours yesterday and had a spare stereo and speakers in my shed which was ripped out of an old car. So decided to put them in the trailer. Space was lacking so I decided to build another compartment on top of my kitchen drawers t house the stereo and speakers.
Coming along nicely. Just need to wire it up this arvo. I have just made it out of ply leftovers from the trailer, also had leftover marine carpet off cuts so it only cost me $9 for some quick grip adhesive and I was on.
The 4" speakers I had sitting around fitting perfect with the limited space I had. I fired it up and tested it and with the volume low it only draws 0.3amps according to my regulator which I am very happy with as I had no idea about power draw. Cranking it up loud it draws about 1.5-1.9amps so all is good in the world!
My ideas was to build a box for on top, i made one up and mounted the head unit in a dummy position to check everything fitted
All worked well so I had to use a hole saw for the 4" speakers and also for the dual cig socket and a hole for the anderson which was already on top of my drawers, I just raised these up to suit the new height
The I used the marine carpet off cuts and tried to join the lines up well so you couldn't see the joins
It should end up looking like this
Will post some pics when I am finished this arvo, just need to run an aerial somewhere and screw it off and run the wires.2012 4dr JK wrangler, 3.5" AEV lift, AEV mags, 35" muddies, front/rear arb bars, tjm sliders, pioneer platform and some other goodies

I will be beginning my steel rear bar build this weekend. The aim is to have a steel rear bar without the wheel carriers/jerry can holders just to stop ripping my rear bar off when 4x4ing. It is basically held on with sikaflex at the moment!
Hopefully it turns out like the ideas in my head2012 4dr JK wrangler, 3.5" AEV lift, AEV mags, 35" muddies, front/rear arb bars, tjm sliders, pioneer platform and some other goodies

So after a busy week deciding on a design and materials, a good mate of mine who is an excellent welder and can weld aluminium talked me into building it out of alloy not steel. Main reasons being he is very good at it, it would be built out of 6mm structural alloy so it is basically as strong as steel, the weight is unbelievable how light it is and it would be something different.
So after him offering to build it for me with me helping lift things etc we set to work. After lots of googling we decided we didnt really want to do the same old design with it wrapping right around to the rear wheels. The main reason was we wanted it to look as factory as possible, whilst increasing departure angles and increasing strength. Ive never actually hit the rear bumper on the sides behind the wheels, only ever the back near the towbar. So we decided top use the towbar 4 bolts to mount it and also made brackets on the sides out of structural alloy plate to further brace it. The end result is you can jack the whole car up via the bar no probs and it weight probably about 8-10kgs in total.
So basically it sits above the towbar. We then made it all up and mounted it, and trimmed the bumper up on an angle to suit and also cut the sides of the bumper off to keep the factory look and put them back on, you cant even notice the bumper has been trimmed but it results in a higher all round back end of the prado which will help massively when it goes off the black top.
I am going to colour code it the same as the car but leave the top checker plate silver so it matches my side steps. We will also be added high lift points in the back just to help stabilise the high lift when it is required.
My mate could potentially be interested in making these for prado's now we have a template, however it is a hobby so he is not sure.
everything tac welded and positioned.
we then had to weld little tabs of checker plate on the sides of the bar where it meets the bumper to hide the gaps
The four holes are the towbar mounts, so to remove the bar it is literally those 4 bolts out, plus two bolts underneath either side for other brackets and off she comes, very very simple and very strong.
the end result. Once it is painted it will look a million bucks I think, as you can see I also need to paint my door as I had to fit another one after a 4x4ing incident but we wont go there!
