      • Its a great bit of kit.

Gotta get out there and get it dirty now. This weekend will be sorting it out and packing for a few quick weekend trips up and down the coast as the weather starts to warm up.

Nice, hope you didn't have to sell a house to pay for it!

            I'll admit they aren't cheap!

In reality, when you compare them to a T-Van or an Ultimate, despite sleeping under a tent rather than a hard enclosure, the Patriots provide a lot more amenity than their competition, and at a lower price. Once you take a Conqueror and add the extras, they end up more expensive also.

We started with a much lower budget, but knew we wanted Australian made, and it had to be compact for towing and storage, offroad capable and functional. Our main priority was to cater for our family of 5, and be fast to set up and pack up. Coming out of a tent, this is taking our camping experience to a whole new level.

We have now justified the cost as considering it as our holiday home, and it has the benefit of being able to change the scenery on a whim.

              Looks great Smithy,

I like the way you have justified the purchase, value is a personal opinion I believe.

Looking forward to seeing the set up shots to see how all five of you bunk down!
              Cheers
              Micheal.

Not fully, as we didn't go with the drawbar extension option. That said, it hasn't caused us any issues as I can get the door half way open, where it locks in place, and I can still get the fridge slide to extend fully, so no problems accessing the liquid refreshments.

                  • Latest update for me - Installed Quantum ECU remap.

I had the EGR turned off as part of this, and all in all am very happy with the result. Fuel economy has improved slightly, as has low down torque, and the engine runs a lot smoother with less rattle. Turbo lag has almost gone as well.

                    • Thanks Smithy. Just bought a second hand one, still not hooked it up yet. have seen that all you have to do is hook a little to the left when you stop to camp.

Spot on. In most cases, we find the trailer is unhitched before we need to get into the back of the Prado anyway, so it hasn't been a big deal.

Congratulations on your purchase! Are you on the Patriot Owners forum?

This sounds interesting i just looked them up, did you have it done at Wauchope? Did they install a blanking plate to block the EGR or does their software close the EGR valve? Was the remap costly? I've just had the EGR and manifold cleaned, so looking at a permanent way to keep it clean.

Yes - Momentum 4x4 in Wauchope. They just programmed the EGR to close, so no blanking plate required. The guys there advised against using a blanking plate as it increases the risk of error codes (not sure why this is, but they said I didn't need it anyway). Its all had a good flush, and is running very nicely. I've only done about 1,500km since the work was done a month ago, but very happy.

Cost $1,550 to get done, which is comparable with a DP Chip, and less than a Steinbauer, with added benefits that these chips simply can't accommodate.

                              • Thanks Smithy, that definitely sounds like it would be worthwhile. $1,550 is a bit of cash, but so is pulling the EGR and manifold off to clean it so the remap should pay for itself in the long run. I will give Momentum 4x4 a call and have a chat to them about it, i'll probably need to get the 3" exhaust fitted first.

BTW i really enjoyed reading your rig build up, well done on all the mods and then enjoying it all with the family.
