Sounds like a lot of fun. Probably a little too much almost
Definitely one beach to be very carefull on, I mentioned that to Wozclean, I think it's a very risky area lol.....
Yes the water is like a magnet hey....... But wait I'm turning that way, but why am I going the other way fast????
Well it was good that you all got out with the vehicles and a big smile.

I was of the opinion it was not going to be easy but bloody nora!
Dead set difficult.....like you said....it put the whole convoy on the back foot....nice unloaded truck would be ideal next time.... a super heavey truck would be a bitch once stuck.....the camping was excelent and we found a nice even keel when chatting......oh...and the dunny was one of the highlights but thats another story.....anyone up for deep creek in two weeks!

Hold your head high soldier, nothing to be ashamed of. It was a split second choice you had to make and hind sight is a 'bitch', by the way is that 'bitch' married to that 'Murphy' guy? However its how we act when the decisions we make go south we all buckled down and got the job done and something to talk around the camp fire afterwards.

Put that one down to to aggressive driving with too lower pressure on the tyre = Blue 150 with a flat sneaker my bad.......Happy to do the walk of shame and post a selfie with a limp?

What can I say......good food, a good yarn and some port to warm the sole....especially when I think I heard someone said it was down around the 4° mark. Just checked there are still 4 left for the drinking, Oh and a 'Mate gave them to me' 'Oh and he lived in Glenelg'. LOL

Baggs you missed Scenario 3.4 where you caught crabs........ which sounds far more interesting than the real story but why let the truth get in the way of a good story I say, the freshly caught sand crab tasted a treat and I can see a trip coming on down the York Peninsula dabbing for crabs with my boys. Are you in?

Nothing to report about this one the 150 never got bogged, had a limp but not bogged

I can see now how this beach could be very unforgiving.

All in all, 'The Scuds' had a great trip and enjoyed every minute of it.....although it may not have seemed too enjoyable with the sea lapping at Baggs rig at the time. It now makes for good story telling and builds mate-ship. Plenty of what you read on this forum. For me the trip was all about the 'journey' sure I wanted to go 4wd'ing and fishing. But my boys came home talking about the camp fire, Baggs Ballads, cars getting stuck, playing in the sand (so much so I think they bought half the Coorong back with them), catching/cooking/eating crab, wanting to learn to shoot a bow n arrow and hunt goats........BAGGS So when I come and hearing these sorts of stories coming from my kids then its mission accomplished.

24/25th should be ok. We'll leave straight after Bailey's lacrosse Game aiming to b there at mid day. Probably just Bailey and I, the other kids have arvo sports which would eat into the day to much. There also could be an extra, we might be looking after my nephew (same age as bailey).

So it's about 1000 hours Saturday morning and we are coming through Tailem Bend and we put a call over the UHF to see if the others were in range and Scud was a few minutes ahead of us, we caught up with scud at the Welly turn off and a little while after, Baggs shows up. We head off to Salt Creek and top up with fuel and get some much needed local knowledge.

We leave Salt Creek and get off the black top at 42 mile crossing. Get to the beach entry air down and go for it.

Cruising along the beach and all is going fine, until the tracks head left into the dunes and we continued along the beach until our fearless leader rapidly decended toward the beach and not forward as intended. As the tide was not at it's peak the water threatened immediately getting closer and closer to Baggs much loved truck.

We worked feverishly to get Baggs moving any direction away from the water, treads and maxtrax helped but it was slow going. The anxiety levels from Baggs was getting higher by the second as was the water level.

Then Scud provided an anchor point (top job Scud) for Baggs to winch himself over the dune and away from the water. In the process a little bit of damage occurs with a bullbar and a tyre rolled off the bead (with the tyre changed courtesy of an impressive exhaust jack) but all were safe and we could all breathe a sigh of relief.

With a few minutes to gather our thoughts and re-group we all agreed that heading further up the beach was not a good idea for this trip so we have a bit of a drive around to find a good spot to set up camp. We reach a beautiful spot on the top of the dunes where we have a kodak moment

On our new quest to find a good spot to set up camp we head back down the dunes and back track a little to find that the best spot to camp which was right where Baggs came off the beach.

There was great conversation, great company, food and a few drinks, some bush ballads (thanks Baggs) and even a spot of fishing (by the very brave cos it was ffffffffffffffreezing). Unfortunately no fish were caught although a crab found its way up the beach, into Baggs' pot and our tummy's.

                          Then there was Sunday...

A quick trip is a good trip if all come home in one piece

Just for future reference Baggs, I mate of mine with a Patrol was in a similar situation to you up the cape with the waves lapping at his wheels. He was on his own and had given up on saving on his rig when 2 young locals rocked up and offered to get him out for a carton of beer. He accepted, they let his tyres down to 4psi and drove it straight out, only far enough to get on hard ground then pumped the tyres back up.

I have never gone to 4psi to get out but have gone to 8, the difference between 10 and 8 was very noticable.

                              Cheers Andrew
