  • Rubber inner guards

    Hey guys,

Could someone with a 120 please take a picture of the rubber pieces in their front guards that are there to protect the engine Etc from debris coming in through the side?

My 120 has the clips but all the rubber has gone so I want to make some of my own but wanted a guide on what they looked like standard so if someone could grab a couple of pics and put them up that would be a huge help.

    Thanks

I just replaced mine today, I had the originals as a pattern but decided to modify to get better coverage, I will try to take photos and post shortly. The originals are rubbish and just disintegrate in your hands.

I replaced mine as well. Took a paper template off our neighbours car and bought some rubber from clark rubber. Worked a treat and saved some serious $ from the clutches of toyota. Total fix was around $20.

Never thought of making new ones...such a great idea and customisable to cover a bit more than stock ones....

might pay to pick up some new push in plastic clips from Bunnings as the originals arnt that great when you remove them

                        Hey Guys,

I have been down this path. I was lucky enough to salvage one of my lower inner guards to use as a template to make my own. I used rubber from Clarke rubber to start with but it didnt last long. If you use rubber make sure it is stitched conveyor rubber, it wont tear, I found this to be too thick tho. I ended up buying a small heavy duty tarp from bunnings, it is green one side and black on the other. Tarps dont tear easily and they are nice and lite, I used an eyelet tool, also from bunnings(make sure you buy the smaller eyelets) to make for good sturdy holes. So black side facing out, eyelets for the holes and cable ties to secure in place, I have also utilised some of the old clips as well where a cable tie would not fit. I used a butane soldering torch to meld(melt/weld) the edge of the pieces of tarp where I had cut them to stop them from fraying, this took all of 30 sec's/piece. Works a treat and goes un-noticed due to the tarp being black. I've had them inplace over 12 months and have the rest of the tarp as spares if I ever need to renew/replace. All up I reckon $20!! Ive thought about using canvas too but the tarp is just too cheap. Good to take with you on a trip as it all takes up bugger-all room. Too easy!! Hope this helps!

It is an option gillies but having a tarp that close to a hot exhaust doesn't sit well with me..

Know what you mean jhiace, but like I mentioned, I've had them on over 12 months and not a problem. I've gota 3 inch exhaust as well so it is a bit closer but nothing to worry about. Not an issue.
